Reasons to Visit Moscow

Moscow is a large city with hundreds of unique locations to visit, but what makes it such a great city to visit? Here are a couple of reasons.

  1. Historic architecture lines the streets of Moscow. With colorful monuments, towering churches and serene parks, there’s no shortage of amazing sights in this city.
  2. The city has plenty of boutique shopping malls that offer some of the world’s most popular brands, but also local stores that will surprise you with the items on offer. Whether it’s high-end fashion, handcrafted matryoshka dolls or unique pieces of artwork, there’s plenty of choice on offer.
  3. Moscow has a wonderful mix of comforting street food and fine dining experiences. Whether you’re a demanding foodie looking for a tantalizing experience or simply want to dig into a large serving of pierogi dumplings, there’s plenty of food options here.
  4. Moscow has a vibrant and exciting nightlife scene that covers everyone’s tastes. Whether you love a bit of rock music, prefer a soulful jazz experience or want to dive into the techno scene in Moscow, there are plenty of events, bars and clubs to attend.

Attractions in Moscow

From the iconic St. Basil’s Cathedral to the State Tretyakov Gallery, there are plenty of must-visit landmarks all over Moscow. If you want a completely unique theatre experience, then a visit to the Bolshoi Theatre is something that you must partake in. It may be difficult to get tickets without booking in advance, so make sure you plan ahead! For something more exciting and adrenaline-pumping, give the Cubiculum escape room a try or the Nebo sports complex.

Food in Moscow

Moscow is no stranger to the culinary world. With morish dumplings such as pelmeni and national classics such as Moscow-style borscht (a beetroot soup), there are plenty of ways to dig into the local cuisine. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, then blini (similar to crepes) and ponchiki (Russian doughnuts) are the perfect remedies. There’s a fantastic mix of street and high-end cuisines as well.

Staying in Moscow

Moscow is known for some very expensive high-end hotels, but accommodation options can also be found for a very low price. From budget hotels to Airbnb, there is no shortage of places to stay even if you’re travelling all across the city.

Moscow Travel Tips

Moscow might be quite a far cry from what you’re used to, so here are a couple of survival tips that you must know!

  • Use the metro instead of driving! It’s far more convenient for getting around the large city and much better than driving. The only exception is if it’s late at night or on the weekends where driving can actually be a fun experience.
  • Don’t think too much about the service in Moscow. While upscale places will treat you like royalty, you’ll get the complete opposite experience in some cases.
  • Learn a few Russian phrases. In Eastern Europe, most people don’t actually speak English or know much so a couple of simple phrases will take you far.
