‘Ello guvnor! Now we’ve got this stereotypical bit of Britishness out of the way, let’s show you what London is really all about. While we can associate London with the Queen and fish and chips, London has a lot more to it than the typical tourist hotspots. But that’s not to say that London doesn’t provide a unique dose of Britishness around every corner! London has a range of cultural diversities that you can sample pretty much any slice of life on offer.
Things To Do
From the perspective of any tourist, you could get yourself to the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and so on. But if you want to experience a more tranquil pace of life, get yourself to Hyde Park, and while relaxing with a nice picnic, you can still get your fill of performance artists, debates, speeches, and possibly protests at the Park’s famous Speaker’s Corner. If you want to get on the river, you can rent a paddle boat and head on to the serpentine. If you’re looking for a rich dose of culture, combined with a shopping experience, you can go to Camden in the north of the city and experience a vibrant community while rummaging through Camden Market. From clothes to literature, and artwork, Camden provides a very rich experience.
Getting Around London
You can choose to get the world-famous black taxi, known as the “Hackney Cab”, or if you want to save your pennies, you can take the bus or the Underground, known as the tube. The London underground is the quickest way to get around London. If you’re in the middle of the city, traffic can be at a standstill, especially during rush hour. There are trains every few minutes and with the vast network of lines, you can cover the entire city throughout the course of a day. But in addition to this, you can choose to get on a riverboat, the Docklands Light Railway (the DLR), or rent a bicycle if you are environmentally conscious.
What Would You Like To Eat?
There is the standard fish and chips, but if you want to have a typically British dining experience, you could get a traditional afternoon tea, consisting of sandwiches, various sweet treats, and a glass of prosecco or a cup of tea, whichever you prefer! Head further into the suburbs, and you will find an array of delicacies, from Indian food to Japanese, and even tasty Mexican food! But if you want that typically British experience, get to a greasy spoon cafe early in the morning, and order a Full English with plenty of tea.
A Couple Of Things You Should Know…
As far as bang for your buck is concerned, it can be quite expensive. London has so many things to offer, but this can mean a lot of money comes out of your pocket. Be sure to plan well in advance of what you want to do, especially in the center of the city. At the same time, there are plenty of museums that are free, giving you a mega dose of culture. But if you really want to see what London has to offer, don’t just go for the touristy sites, head further out and experience the real London.
