You’re at work. You’re trying to concentrate on the task at hand, but your eyes can’t stop wandering to the windows. Look at that beautiful clear sky. Summer’s just around the corner and the call to adventure is practically ringing in your ears. Soon you’ll be able to leave work and all its responsibilities behind, and take the whole family away on a vacation they’ll never forget. But where to go? You mull this over as you surreptitiously minimize the spreadsheet on your screen.

There are so many beautiful and exotic destinations all over the world, but which one would be best for your family? Where will the kids be happy, entertained, and safe? Where will you and your significant other be able to relax and enjoy some time together? We thought we’d save you the effort by compiling this list of wonderful family-friendly cities overseas. You’re sure to find one that’s perfect for you.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam has developed an unfortunately seedy reputation among holiday makers, especially as portrayed in Hollywood films and television. However, Amsterdam is a beautiful and diverse city and the less than family-friendly aspects are neatly compartmentalized.

Amsterdam is accessibly small, safe, and easy to get around either using the excellent public transportation or by Amsterdam’s favorite mode of transport—the humble bicycle. With stunning architecture, friendly and accommodating locals, and a host of wonderful museums, libraries, and gardens Amsterdam is a safe and stunning vacation spot.

Zurich

Safe, pristine, beautifully maintained, and full of friendly, happy locals, Zurich in Switzerland will wow the whole family with its fairytale looks and charming inhabitants. There’s a whole lot to see and do in the city, from Aathal Dinosaur Museum (which really is as awesome as it sounds) to the Zoological Museum where you can see all kinds of animals which aren’t extinct.

Go for a dip in the stunning Lake Zurich, take a hike up the Uetliberg mountain, or simply relax and enjoy some of the best chocolate you’ll ever eat in your life.

Singapore

Asia has many family-friendly cities, but none is quite so stunning as the city state of Singapore. Known by locals as the “city in a garden” it has a lot to offer nature lovers. In fact, from the moment you step off the plane, you’ll be wowed by the airport’s incredible sunflower garden. You’ll also get to enjoy the Botanic Gardens (a UNESCO heritage site) and Sentosa Island which is just brimming with kid friendly attractions including an amazing aquarium and waterpark, as well as Universal Tours Singapore.

Singapore’s multicultural nature means that English is fairly widely spoken and its locals are among the friendliest on the planet. They say Thailand is the land of smiles, but Singapore gives it a run for its money.

Christchurch

New Zealand has a wealth of stunning cities. While many are drawn to Auckland in the north to settle, people tend to head to the southern island for fun. Here you’ll find Queenstown (a haven for adventurers with surfing, mountain biking, and even skydiving) but families may prefer the more sedate Christchurch.

Back on its feet after a tragic earthquake a few years back, Christchurch is open for business and full of gorgeous views and attractions. Kids will love the “destination playgrounds” while the whole family will love the warmth and sincerity of the Kiwi welcome.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly overseas vacation, these four will provide you with a great starting point. Back to work for now, but an awesome adventure awaits!
