Cap d'Antibes is a pine-covered headland between Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, and it holds the highest concentration of private wealth on the French Riviera. It is also where the summer season on this coast was invented: until the 1920s the Riviera was a winter destination, and it was the American set around Gerald and Sara Murphy — and the Fitzgeralds, who spent 1925 and 1926 in a villa at Juan-les-Pins — who first persuaded the hotels to stay open through July.
The hotels here trade in seclusion rather than boulevard theatre. Where Cannes is a street, the Cap is a set of gates. Antibes itself, meanwhile, has the old town, the Picasso Museum in the Château Grimaldi and Port Vauban — the largest yacht harbour in Europe, whose "Billionaires' Quay" is a genuine spectacle.

How to Choose
Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc is a decision rather than a hotel: if the myth is the point, nothing substitutes for it, and the cabanas along the rock pool are the most requested seats on the coast. If you want the same headland at a third of the cost, the Cap d'Antibes Beach Hotel gives you the sand, the star and a fraction of the formality. Belles Rives is for anyone who cares about the 1920s, and it is genuinely lovely at sunset.
Practically: the Cap closes for winter, so plan between April and mid-October, and avoid the film-festival fortnight in May unless that is the point — Cannes is fifteen minutes away and prices ripple across the whole bay. Antibes is also the most sensible place on this coast to combine a stay with Cannes to the west and Nice to the east, both under half an hour.

Is Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc worth the money?
For one landmark stay, yes — the setting, the rock pool and the sheer sense of place are not replicable elsewhere on the coast. But it is the most expensive hotel on the Riviera, it closes in winter, and its beach cabanas book close to a year ahead. If you want the Cap without the rate, the Cap d'Antibes Beach Hotel or the Impérial Garoupe deliver most of the location for far less.
