Berlin luxury has one undisputed monument (the Hotel Adlon Kempinski, rebuilt on its 1907 footprint beside the Brandenburg Gate) and a Mitte bench around it: Rocco Forte's Hotel de Rome in a former bank on Bebelplatz and the Ritz-Carlton at Potsdamer Platz. (The Regent on Gendarmenmarkt, opened in 1996 as the city's Four Seasons, closed in December 2024 when its lease ran out.) West of the Tiergarten, the Waldorf Astoria tower and Das Stue in the old Danish embassy anchor City West's revival, while Kreuzberg's Orania proves Berlin does boutique as well as grandeur.
