Every room, photo and amenity at Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
Rome Cavalieri is a resort inside a capital city: opened in 1963 in a 15-acre Mediterranean park on Rome's highest hill, with views to St Peter's, four pools, a 26,000 sq ft spa, an art collection that runs from the 14th century to today, and La Pergola, Rome's only three-MICHELIN-star restaurant, on the ninth floor. It is also, on our numbers, the best value of the six luxury hotels we scored in Rome, by a distance. On three of our four test stays it cost $459–742 a night, when the cheapest of the five rivals we track cost $1,131 or more, and its guests scored it 9.44 out of 10.
Our verdict: book it if you want space, a pool and La Pergola at a far lower rate than the other Rome luxury hotels we priced. Two cautions. Its dates swing hard: on our 10–13 November stay our engine had a single room type left at $2,220 a night, the dearest of the six Rome hotels we checked. And all 370 rooms and suites are being restyled in phases through 2027, with the hotel open throughout, so ask where the works are when you book. If guest scores alone decide it, the Hotel de Russie (9.75) is the stronger record, at about three to four times the price on three of our four stays.
Rome Cavalieri in Brief
- 9.44 out of 10 across its 100 most recent reviews (February to August 2026): 84% scored it 9 or more and 4% under 7, eighth of the 31 Waldorf Astorias we rank.
- The lowest-priced of the six Rome luxury hotels we scored on three of our four stays: $603 (27–30 Dec), $459 (12–15 Mar) and $742 (15–18 Jul), against $1,131 and up at the rivals.
- Dates matter: $2,220 a night on 10–13 Nov 2026 with only one room type left; on our monthly calendar, $365 in February and $1,637 in May.
- La Pergola (chef Heinz Beck) holds three MICHELIN stars in the 2026 Italy guide, the only three-star restaurant in Rome; the hotel itself holds no MICHELIN Key in 2026.
- All rooms and suites are being restyled by Tihany Design over two years from January 2026, with phased works and the hotel open; the first new rooms are due in late spring 2027.
- Breakfast for two adds $65–66 a night to the same room and free cancellation 7–11%; the hotel collected ~$80–232 a night at checkout on our November and December stays.
Rome Cavalieri by Our Numbers
On 3 October 2026 we priced the same stays through our own booking engine (the one behind hotels.biirdee.com) and scored the 100 most recent verified guest reviews ourselves. Test stays: 10–13 Nov 2026, 27–30 Dec 2026, 12–15 Mar 2027 and 15–18 Jul 2027, two adults. Rates are the lowest per night the engine charged; taxes the hotel collects at checkout are extra. Room names are as the engine describes them.

What the reviews say: the resort side is what guests rate highest. The pool came up in a third of written reviews and the view in nearly as many, and both averaged above the hotel's overall 9.44. Food (8.4) and breakfast (8.67) came up often too and averaged lower. Couples wrote over half the reviews and solo travelers more than a quarter; families wrote 17%, and the reviews that mentioned children averaged 8.29.
What the November stay tells you: on 10–13 Nov 2026 our engine had one room type left, at $2,220 a night plus ~$232 a night collected at checkout. On our monthly calendar the midweek November stay later that month cost $396. When a large hotel shows a single room type at a high rate, availability is tight on those dates: move them if you can, or ask us to look.
Rome Cavalieri Month by Month
Lowest rate per night for the same two-night, midweek stay (Tuesday to Thursday of the third week) in each month, priced through our booking engine on 3 October 2026. "No rooms" means nothing was bookable on our engine: sold out, not yet released or not sold through it.

When to Go, on Our Numbers
Winter is the bargain: $365–443 a night midweek in every month from November to March that had rooms, with February the cheapest ($365). Spring is the opposite: $985 in April and $1,637 in May, the priciest month, more than four times the February rate. Summer sits between, $738 in July and $593 in August. January, June, September and October showed no rooms on our engine; that means nothing was bookable through it on those dates, not that the hotel closes, so ask us for those months.
How It Compares in Rome
The six luxury hotels we scored in Rome, by recent guest score, with the same four test stays. Guest score: the mean of the most recent verified reviews on our booking platform (out of 10), then the share scoring 9 or more and the share under 7; † marks an older review window. Rates were pulled on 3 October 2026, except Hotel Eden's (1 October 2026).

Of the six luxury hotels we scored in Rome, Rome Cavalieri ranks fourth on guest score, and only the Hotel de Russie beats it on a full, recent sample (9.75 across 100 reviews since February 2026); the Hassler and the Bulgari score higher on older, smaller samples. On price it is in a different bracket. Over New Year, in March and in July it cost $459–742 a night, about half or less of the cheapest rival on each stay (Hotel Eden at $1,131–1,375). Only on our 10–13 November stay was it the dearest of the six.
Our reading: if guest scores and Forbes stars matter most and the budget allows, compare the Hotel de Russie and Hotel Eden (both Forbes Five-Star; Eden and the Hassler also hold a MICHELIN Key in 2026). If you want a resort, a pool and La Pergola, and would rather spend the difference on the rest of the trip, the Cavalieri is the clear value on our numbers. Rooms, La Pergola, the Spa and the Park
There are 345 rooms and 25 suites, including the bi-level Planetarium and Penthouse suites; on our stays the Planetarium Suite cost $8,656 a night in July and the Penthouse Suite $9,930–10,029 in December and March, while the cheapest suites (the Alcove Suite and the Park and Superior suites with park and pool views) ran $1,350–1,442. Every room and suite is being restyled by Tihany Design (principal Alessia Genova) over two years from January 2026, keeping and restoring the Carrara marble bathrooms; the hotel stays open with the works phased, and the first new rooms are due in late spring 2027.
La Pergola, on the ninth floor, is chef Heinz Beck's restaurant: three MICHELIN stars in the 2026 Italy guide, Rome's only three-star restaurant, and Beck also received the 2026 MICHELIN Chef Mentor award. The dining room itself was renovated in 2024. Beyond it, L'Uliveto serves Sunday brunch and there is a Pool Bar.
The Grand Spa covers 26,000 sq ft with 10 themed treatment rooms, and there are four pools (one indoor), tennis courts and a running trail in the 15-acre park. The art collection, more than a thousand works by Hilton's count, includes three works by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, costumes of Nureyev and a 1725 Beauvais tapestry, with tours led by a resident art historian.
Booking It: Points or Cash
Rome Cavalieri is a Hilton Honors hotel, so an award night is an option; our Waldorf Astoria points guide covers when points beat cash. For cash stays booked through an advisor in Hilton's invitation-only Hilton for Luxury programme, Hilton adds breakfast for two where the rate does not already include it, a property credit (typically $100 or more), an upgrade to the next room category and early check-in or late check-out (both subject to availability), VIP status and double Hilton Honors points. Biirdee adds our WhatsApp concierge and, given the renovation, a check on where the works are before you arrive.
Rome Cavalieri FAQs

Midweek stays ran $365–1,637 a night across the months with rooms. Taxes collected at checkout added ~$80–232 a night on our November and December stays.
When is Rome Cavalieri cheapest?
In winter: $365–443 a night midweek from November to March (in the months with rooms), with February the cheapest at $365. May was the priciest month ($1,637) and April next ($985). Our engine showed no rooms in January, June, September or October 2027.
Is breakfast included at Rome Cavalieri?
Not in the lowest rates we found: all four were room only. Breakfast for two added $65–66 a night to the same room on our stays. A Hilton for Luxury booking includes breakfast for two.
Rome Cavalieri or Hotel de Russie?
The Hotel de Russie has the stronger guest record (9.75 across 100 recent reviews, against 9.44) and a Forbes Five-Star. The Cavalieri costs a fraction as much on most dates: $603 against $2,101 over New Year, $459 against $1,915 in March and $742 against $2,081 in July. Choose the Cavalieri for the park, the pools and La Pergola; the de Russie if the guest score matters most and the budget allows.
Does Rome Cavalieri have a Michelin-starred restaurant?
Yes. La Pergola, chef Heinz Beck's restaurant on the ninth floor, holds three MICHELIN stars in the 2026 Italy guide, the only three-star restaurant in Rome. The hotel itself is not in the 2026 MICHELIN Key selection.
Is Rome Cavalieri being renovated?
Yes. All rooms and suites are being restyled by Tihany Design over two years from January 2026. The hotel stays open with phased works, and the first new rooms are due in late spring 2027. Ask where the works are when you book.
