Sandy Lane: The Caribbean's Grand Resort, Explained

Seventy years of pink coral stone, a beach that collects legends every winter, and golf's most photographed par-3 — Barbados's one and only.

By Biirdee Travel. Updated 2026-06-10.

Sandy Lane has defined Caribbean grandeur since 1961: a coral-stone palazzo on the best stretch of Barbados's Platinum Coast, rebuilt to its current scale in 2001 and run with a polish no island neighbor matches. The winter season here is a social institution — the beach in January collects more famous faces per hundred metres than anywhere outside Cannes — yet the resort's machinery (the 47,000 sq ft spa, the Bajan staff who remember everyone) is what keeps guests returning for decades.

It headlines the Caribbean's LHW roster, and Leaders Club benefits apply on qualifying rates — no small thing at these tariffs.

What to Know Before You Go

The golf is world-class and worth planning around: the Tom Fazio-designed Green Monkey, carved through a coral quarry, is among the most exclusive rounds anywhere (resort guests only), with the Country Club course as the everyday track. Off the fairways: the beach's legendary swimming-with-turtles boat runs, a kids' club (the Tree House) that makes this one of the Caribbean's most genuinely family-capable grand resorts, and Monday's folkloric Bajan buffet that nobody admits to loving and everybody attends.

Strategy: summer is the secret — the identical resort at roughly half the winter tariff, with calm seas and the island at its friendliest. Festive requires commitment (minimum stays, deposits, and a booking made the previous winter). Either way, club benefits plus Biirdee's coordination (transfers in the resort's own fleet, tee times, west-coast restaurant tables) come attached.

Sandy Lane FAQs

How much does Sandy Lane cost?

Summer 2026 opens around $1,200–1,400 per night; winter runs ~$2,200–3,400; festive exceeds $3,400 with multi-night minimums. The seasonal spread is the largest of any Caribbean grand resort.

Can anyone play the Green Monkey?

Resort guests only, by arrangement — which is precisely its mystique. The Country Club course is open more broadly; golf packages bundle both.

Is Sandy Lane family-friendly?

Unusually so for a resort this formal — the Tree House kids' club, calm west-coast water, and family suites make it a multigenerational tradition for many regulars.

How does it compare to Amanyara?

Opposite philosophies: Sandy Lane is the social grand resort; Amanyara is the nature-reserve hideaway. Scene versus seclusion — choose by temperament.
