How Our Pricing Works — and Why the Discount Is Real

Where Does the Discount Come From?

Every fare on Google Flights or an airline's website is a published fare, filed into the industry's central databases that all public search engines price from. Unpublished fares — also called consolidator, net, or wholesale fares — travel a different road: the airline signs a private contract with a licensed agency, granting access to specific cabins on specific routes at a net rate well below the published level. Contracts are one channel of two. Where you hold transferable points, the desk also checks whether an award redemption beats the contracted fare — on some routes and dates it genuinely does, and we say so. How Does Biirdee Make Money With $0 Booking Fees?

On the fare spread. A consolidator contract gives the agency a net rate; the margin sits inside the discounted price you're quoted, not on top of it. That's why there are no booking fees and no membership requirement — quotes are free, and the price you're quoted is the price you pay.

Why Do Airlines Allow It?

Distressed inventory first. A business class seat is perishable — the moment the door closes, an empty seat is worth zero. When airlines know a premium cabin won't sell at published levels, publicly discounting would train customers to wait and infuriate corporate accounts paying contracted rates, so they quietly release the inventory to consolidators instead. The seats fill; the published price stays intact.

Market-specific pricing and volume commitments do the rest: airlines price the same seat very differently by point of sale, and consolidator contracts let them target specific markets aggressively while consolidators guarantee a flow of sales across the year. And the reason these fares never show up in your own searching is structural, not suspicious — private fares are loaded against specific agency accounts inside the reservation systems, with no public API to query them. Google Flights can't see them by design.

Is Biirdee Legit? Run the Checks Yourself

Don't take a pricing page's word for it. These are the same checks we recommend for vetting any wholesale-fare seller — apply them to us (more common questions in the FAQ):

• Legal identity: Biirdee Inc., based in Burlingame, California, is a registered California Seller of Travel — registration number C4549960, stated in our terms. (Registration as a seller of travel in California does not constitute the state's approval.)
• You pay by credit card, keeping chargeback protection — never wire-transfer-only.
• You see the full itinerary, fare rules, and total price in writing before paying anything.
• Within a day of paying you hold a 13-digit e-ticket number, and the booking appears when you enter the record locator on the airline's own website. Check it the day of ticketing.
• Ask for accreditation: legitimate agencies reselling consolidator fares hold ARC (US) or IATA accreditation — the industry licenses to issue tickets on airline stock. Ask us; ask anyone else you compare.
• Read the reviews — named clients at real companies, under a real business identity.
• We state the trade-offs unprompted, and we'll say so when we can't beat the published fare. Sometimes we can't.

The Honest Trade-Offs

Because the fare exists under the agency's contract, changes, cancellations, and refunds run through Biirdee rather than the airline's call center or app. With a responsive desk that's often an upgrade — someone answering on WhatsApp beats an hour on hold — but it is a real difference from booking direct, and it's the main reason a simple trip where peace of mind beats price can be better booked with the airline.

Fare rules are typically tighter than the flexible published fares they undercut: expect change fees, restricted refundability, and sometimes reduced mileage earning by booking class. None of it is hidden — every fare we quote comes with its change terms, refund terms, and earning class stated in writing before you pay.
