The Best Luxury Hotels in Venice, Honestly Ranked

Where to stay in Venice comes down to which side of the water you want to wake up on. San Marco, the sestiere around the Piazza, holds the most of our picks: the St. Regis and the Gritti Palace on the Grand Canal, Baglioni Hotel Luna one bridge from the square, and Violino d'Oro by La Fenice. Across the Grand Canal, Aman Venice sits on the San Polo bank near the Rialto and Palazzo Venart in quieter Santa Croce; Orient Express Venezia is in Cannaregio, the residential north; and the Gabrielli looks over the lagoon from the Riva degli Schiavoni in Castello. Then there are the islands: the Cipriani on Giudecca and the JW Marriott on Isola delle Rose, both a boat ride from San Marco and the only two of our picks with a pool. The Cipriani closes each winter, so the season matters as much as the hotel.

The Short Answers

  • Best overall: Aman Venice, 24 rooms in the 16th-century Palazzo Papadopoli on the Grand Canal, with Tiepolo ceilings, two private gardens and Three MICHELIN Keys, from about $1,400 a night.
  • Best for a summer resort stay: Hotel Cipriani on Giudecca, Three MICHELIN Keys and what Belmond calls the largest pool in Venice; it is closed for the season now and reopens on 1 June 2027, at $2,207–3,068 a night midweek on our calendar.
  • Best near St Mark's Square: the Gritti Palace, a 15th-century doge's palazzo on the Grand Canal with Two MICHELIN Keys, or Baglioni Hotel Luna, one bridge from the Piazza.
  • Best for couples: Palazzo Venart, 18 rooms with a canal-front garden and GLAM's two Michelin stars downstairs; Aman Venice for the once-in-a-lifetime suite.
  • Best for families: the JW Marriott Venice on its own island, with a kids club and outdoor pools, one of them on the roof; Baglioni Hotel Luna's family suites in the center.
  • Best boutique stay in San Marco: Violino d'Oro, 32 rooms, family-owned and run, with One MICHELIN Key, minutes from the Piazza.
  • Best value: the Gabrielli on the Riva, from about €400 a night, then Palazzo Venart from about €500 and Violino d'Oro from about €550.
  • When to go: late October to March, outside Carnival, brings rates down 30–40% across the LHW hotels and Aman Venice; summer is the Cipriani's only window, with July its cheapest month on our calendar.

How to Choose

Couples have the deepest choice: Aman Venice for the Tiepolo suites and its private gardens, the Cipriani for the pool, the gardens and the Dior Spa in summer, the Gritti Palace for its Grand Canal terrace, Palazzo Venart for its 18 rooms, its garden and GLAM's two Michelin stars, and Orient Express Venezia for its suites. Families do best with space and a pool, which in Venice means the islands: the JW Marriott has a kids club, family rooms and its outdoor pools, one on the roof, and the Cipriani has family rooms, babysitting, a playground and its pool in season. In the center, Baglioni Hotel Luna has family suites for four or five and babysitting.

Venice has no business district, and the meetings that come here are conferences and events. For those, the JW Marriott has meeting rooms, a business center and its own boat to San Marco, and Baglioni Hotel Luna has a business center and meeting rooms one bridge from the Piazza. Travelers on their own want a central address and a bar that welcomes one: Violino d'Oro's 32 rooms and Il Piccolo Bar, and the St. Regis, a short walk from St Mark's Square, with the Arts Bar's terrace over the Grand Canal. Pair the city with Aman Rosa Alpina in the Dolomites or Milan, and see our Leading Hotels in Venice for the LHW side of the city.

What Biirdee Does

A concierge travel agency: paid by the hotel, never by you

Biirdee Travel books luxury hotels through preferred-partner programs: you pay the same rate as booking direct, the partner benefits attach to your reservation, and a human concierge handles the details end to end.

  1. Tell us the trip

Destination or property, rough dates, who’s traveling. The form takes two minutes and commits you to nothing.

  2. A concierge replies within hours

A real person checks availability, compares properties honestly, and confirms the perks your stay qualifies for: upgrades, breakfast, and credits where available.

  3. Book at the same rate as direct

The hotel pays our commission out of the rate you’d pay anyway, so the perks cost you nothing. Before and during the trip, one concierge on WhatsApp handles requests and changes.

Flying too? The same team books business and first class: flights and hotels aligned as one itinerary, one point of contact.
