IHG Hotels & Resorts describes itself as "a family of 21 hotel brands" with more than 7,100 hotels and a million-plus rooms in over 100 countries, most of them Holiday Inns, Holiday Inn Expresses and Crowne Plazas. At the top of that pyramid sits a luxury tier that deserves more attention than it gets: Six Senses, the wellness resort brand IHG bought in 2019; Regent, the 1970s Hong Kong legend it relaunched; and InterContinental, the original international grand-hotel chain, whose best addresses (the Amstel in Amsterdam, the Carlton in Cannes before it became a Regent, the overwater resorts of Bora Bora) remain genuinely special.

The Luxury Flags, One by One
Six Senses is the reason a luxury traveler holds IHG points. Its 27 hotels in about 20 countries are built around deep spas, sleep and longevity programs, and a barefoot, sustainability-first style: Zighy Bay in a cove of Oman's Musandam peninsula, Laamu in the Maldives' southern atolls, Yao Noi facing Phang Nga Bay's limestone karsts, the Douro Valley's restored quinta, and the newer urban houses in Rome (2023), Kyoto (2024) and London, which opened at The Whiteley in March 2026. AMAALA on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast followed in July 2026. Regent, founded in 1970, defined Asian luxury service through the 1980s from its Hong Kong flagship; after decades of changing owners, IHG bought the brand in 2018 and relaunched Regent Hong Kong in 2023 in its original Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront building. Eleven Regents are open: Hong Kong, Taipei, Beijing, two in Shanghai, Chongqing, Phu Quoc, Bali Canggu, Porto Montenegro, the Carlton in Cannes (reopened in 2023 as "a Regent Hotel") and Santa Monica Beach. Two often-cited Regents have gone: Regent Singapore is now the Conrad Singapore Orchard, and Regent Berlin closed at the end of 2024.
InterContinental, with 242 hotels, is IHG's largest luxury flag and its most uneven: some are big business hotels, others are landmarks. The ones worth seeking out are the historic city hotels (the Amstel in Amsterdam, Le Grand in Paris beside the Opéra, the Willard in Washington, the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco) and the resorts where IHG points go furthest, above all the overwater villas of Bora Bora and the Maldives and the Sun Peninsula in Danang. Vignette Collection is IHG's set of independents under their own names, and Kimpton its boutique lifestyle brand, whose Asian resorts (Kitalay on Koh Samui) punch above their price.

IHG One Rewards at Luxury Hotels: The Points Math
IHG One Rewards points are worth about half a cent each on our working valuation. Stays earn ten base points per dollar at most brands, and Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt transfer in at 1:1. Award prices are dynamic, typically 10,000 to 100,000 points a night, with the most sought-after resorts pricing well above that (a night at Six Senses London starts around 169,000 points). The best-value lever is IHG's co-branded credit card: cardholders get the fourth night free on award stays of four nights or more.
For a luxury traveler the math works best at the InterContinental island resorts in off-peak weeks and at the Six Senses resorts that participate, where cash rates run high. It works worst at big-city InterContinentals, where a cash booking earns points, counts toward status and, through IHG Destined, adds breakfast and a credit. IHG's points sales, which recur several times a year, can make topping up for a specific redemption worthwhile; PointBreaks, the 5,000-point sale list many guides still mention, was discontinued in 2020.

How We Book IHG Luxury
IHG Destined, launched in January 2025, is IHG's invitation-only advisor program for select Six Senses, Regent, InterContinental, Kimpton, Vignette Collection and Hotel Indigo hotels. Bookings through it are made at the hotel's flexible public rate and add daily breakfast for two, a US$100 credit per stay, an upgrade when available, early check-in and late checkout, and a welcome amenity. The stay earns IHG points and elite nights, and your status benefits still apply, which matters at Six Senses, where elite perks otherwise don't.
That makes the advisor channel the default for Six Senses and the city Regents and InterContinentals. No. PointBreaks, the list of hotels bookable for 5,000 points a night, was discontinued in 2020 and has not returned. The value plays now are the co-branded card's fourth night free and IHG's periodic points sales.
Which credit cards transfer to IHG One Rewards?
Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt, both at 1:1. Because IHG points are worth about half a cent, those transfers rarely beat moving the same points to World of Hyatt or to an airline.
Is there still a Regent in Singapore or Berlin?
No. Regent Singapore became the Conrad Singapore Orchard, a Hilton hotel, and Regent Berlin on Gendarmenmarkt closed in December 2024 when its lease ended. The open Regents are in Hong Kong, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai (two), Chongqing, Phu Quoc, Bali Canggu, Porto Montenegro, Cannes and Santa Monica.
