Saint-Tropez runs on a short, ferocious season, roughly May through early October, and its top tier is a small, fiercely contested circle. Cheval Blanc St-Tropez is the only palace-grade address actually on the water; Airelles Château de la Messardière and La Réserve Ramatuelle hold France's Palace distinction on the hills above Pampelonne and l'Escalet; and the Byblos, whose 1967 opening (Brigitte Bardot, Mick Jagger's wedding) invented the village's mythology, still owns the nightlife. How to Choose
Cheval Blanc is the complete answer if the budget reaches: waterfront breakfast, maison service, and the village a five-minute stroll. The two Palace hideaways trade the village for space: the Messardière for château theatre and the Pampelonne beach club, La Réserve for spa-led calm and some of the peninsula's most private villas. The Byblos is for the scene: if your Saint-Tropez includes Les Caves at 1am, sleep upstairs. White 1921 and La Ponche put you inside the village for well under palace money; Lou Pinet adds a pool garden a short walk out. Villa Belrose suits couples who want the view and the calm, descending into the circus by choice, and Lily of the Valley is the wellness retreat with Gigaro's quieter sand.
