The Berkeley London: Rooms, Rates and Our Honest Review

The Berkeley began as an 18th-century coffee house, the Gloucester, and took its name in 1897. In 1972 it moved to Wilton Place in Knightsbridge, into a building by Brian O'Rorke with a seventh-floor rooftop pool, and it has kept reinventing itself since: David Collins' Blue Bar in "Lutyens Blue" in 2000, the fashion-themed Prêt-à-Portea afternoon tea in 2005, glass entrance pavilions by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners in 2016, Cédric Grolet's first patisserie outside France in 2022 and, in February 2025, La Môme London from Cannes.

It is Maybourne's Knightsbridge all-rounder (Michelin counts 190 rooms) and, on our numbers, its value pick in London: the cheapest of the group's London hotels on our 12-month calendar, at $1,049 a night in January and March, with access to Surrenne Belgravia, the wellness club inside the Emory next door, included in every stay. It is also the lowest-scoring of the four Maybourne hotels we could rank on guest reviews, and the reviews say why.

The Berkeley in Brief

  • 9.12 out of 10 across its 100 most recent reviews (October 2025 to August 2026): 78% scored 9 or more, the lowest share among Maybourne's scored hotels, but only 5% scored under 7.
  • Lowest rates on our test stays: $1,205 a night for 10–13 Nov 2026, $1,611 for 27–30 Dec 2026, $1,049 for 12–15 Mar 2027 and $1,637 (breakfast included) for 15–18 Jul 2027.
  • Cheapest months on our calendar: January and March at $1,049 a night; dearest: June and July at $1,645.
  • Breakfast for two adds $107–110 a night to the same room, and suites start at $1,538 (Junior Suite Deluxe, March 2027).
  • Forbes Five-Star and Two MICHELIN Keys, with Surrenne Belgravia access in every stay.

La Môme, Cédric Grolet and the Rooftop

Dining here now runs on two French imports. La Môme London opened on 7 February 2025, run by Ugo and Antoine Lecorché of Cannes, with 170 seats inside and 28 on a new terrace. Cédric Grolet at The Berkeley, which opened in 2022, was the pastry chef's first patisserie outside France, and The Berkeley Café serves the hotel's Goûtea afternoon tea. Marcus, Marcus Wareing's former restaurant, is no longer among the hotel's listed restaurants.

Bryan O'Sullivan designed The Berkeley Bar & Terrace, and in summer the rooftop pool gets its own bar. The hotel describes itself as having two pools, and every stay includes access to Surrenne Belgravia, Maybourne's wellness and longevity club next door at the Emory.

The Berkeley by Our Numbers

What the Numbers Say

The calendar is easy to read. The Berkeley holds at $1,049–1,061 a night from January to April, sits at $1,137 in mid-December and $1,341 in November, then climbs to $1,481–1,645 from May to August before easing to $1,259 in September; June and July cost 57% more than January. The week between Christmas and New Year is the exception to a cheap December: our 27–30 December stay came back at $1,611 a night. October 2027 showed no rooms.

The reviews are good rather than great. Only 78% of recent guests scored 9 or more, the lowest share in the group, yet just 5% scored under 7, fewer outright disappointments than at Claridge's (8%). Its long-run platform score, 8.9 over 365 reviews, is the only one in the group under 9.0. Breakfast is the clearest weak point: it comes up in 14% of written reviews, and those average 7.75, the lowest breakfast score at any Maybourne hotel we measured; food in general (25%) averages 8.29. The pool (7%, a perfect 10.0) and the spa (7%, 9.5) are what guests love, and the 11% who mention noise average 9.67, which reads as praise for the quiet rather than complaint.

Our read: the Berkeley is the Maybourne to book when price matters and you want a pool. Take the room-only rate (breakfast adds $107–110 for two and is the least-loved part of the stay), and spend the difference at La Môme. In summer, check Claridge's too: on our calendar its flat $1,239 undercut the Berkeley from July to September.

The Berkeley is joint 10th of the 14 luxury hotels we scored in London, level with Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park at 9.12 and ahead of Four Seasons Park Lane (9.00), Rosewood London (8.73) and Mandarin Oriental Mayfair (8.52). Its rivals around Hyde Park Corner and Sloane Street make the comparison uncomfortable: the Cadogan (9.48) was cheaper on all four of our stays and the Lanesborough (9.42) on three of them. The Berkeley's case rests on its own things: the rooftop pool, La Môme and Cédric Grolet, Surrenne in every stay, and a Knightsbridge address a short stroll from Harvey Nichols.

The Berkeley FAQs

How much does the Berkeley cost per night?

On 1 October 2026 the lowest rates on our test stays were $1,205 a night for 10–13 November 2026, $1,611 for 27–30 December, $1,049 for 12–15 March 2027 and $1,637, with breakfast, for 15–18 July 2027. Across the coming year, two-night midweek stays ran $1,049–1,645 a night. On three of our four stays the hotel also collects taxes at checkout, about $198–309 a night.

When is the Berkeley cheapest?

January and March, at $1,049 a night midweek on our calendar, with February and April close behind at $1,061. June and July are the dearest at $1,645. The week between Christmas and New Year costs more than the rest of December: $1,611 a night on our 27–30 December stay, against $1,137 for a midweek stay in mid-December.

Is breakfast included at the Berkeley?

Usually not on the cheapest rate: three of our four test stays came back room only, and only the July one included breakfast. Breakfast for two in the same room on the same terms added $107–110 a night.

Does the Berkeley have a pool?

Yes. The seventh-floor rooftop pool dates from the hotel's 1972 move to Wilton Place, it has its own bar in summer, and the hotel describes itself as having two pools. Every stay also includes access to Surrenne Belgravia, the wellness club at the Emory next door.

Should I book the Berkeley or the Emory?

They sit side by side and share the Surrenne club. The Berkeley is the one on our live rates, from $1,049 a night on our calendar, with the rooftop pool and La Môme. The Emory is all suites, with breakfast, a 24-hour butler and the minibar included, and it scored higher with its (few) recent guests: 9.33 against 9.12. It never showed rooms on our engine, so we book it on request.
