ANA's A380 to Honolulu on Miles (2026): FLYING HONU First and Business Class Awards

The Aircraft and the Schedule
ANA flies its Airbus A380s, which it calls FLYING HONU, between Tokyo Narita and Honolulu. The type entered service in May 2019 with 520 seats on two decks: 8 in first class, 56 in business and 73 in premium economy on the upper deck, and 383 in economy on the main deck, where the back rows can be booked as ANA COUCHii, three or four seats that convert into a couch for an extra charge. It was the first time ANA had offered first class on a Honolulu route.
ANA's published schedule for 3 July to 24 October 2026 has NH184 leaving Narita at 8:10 p.m. and arriving in Honolulu at 8:45 a.m., and NH183 leaving Honolulu at 11:50 a.m. and reaching Narita at 3:05 p.m. the next day. A second pair, NH182 and NH181, runs on selected days. ANA says the schedule from 25 October 2026 will be announced once confirmed, so check the flight before you build a trip around it.

Three Ways to Book It With Points
ANA Mileage Club. The direct route, priced from the chart above, bookable online from 355 days out to 96 hours before departure. The A380's low-season first class at 60,000 miles one-way is 15,000 fewer than first class to the US mainland in the same season. ANA awards can only be used by the member and registered family, and ANA adds its fuel surcharge.
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Virgin prices ANA by region, and Japan to Hawaii is 20,000 points in economy, 37,500 in business and 57,500 in first, one-way, all year. Virgin books ANA through its Flying Club team rather than online, only on ANA-operated flights, and its prices exclude taxes and surcharges. In high season that is 62,500 fewer points than ANA's own first class price.
Upgrade a paid ticket. A business class fare booked in J, C, D or Z can be upgraded to first with 35,000 ANA miles each way on this route, because Tokyo to Honolulu (3,831 miles) sits in ANA's 3,501 to 4,500-mile band. Premium economy or flexible economy fares can move up to business for 20,000 miles, and economy to premium economy costs 15,000. Upgrade requests close 24 hours before departure; after that ANA allows a waitlist until the day, and with eight first class seats on the aircraft, space is the constraint.
From the US Mainland
ANA does not fly between the US mainland and Hawaii, so a mainland trip on the A380 needs a connection in Honolulu on another airline. On ANA miles that makes it a partner award, priced from ANA's flat partner chart for the whole journey rather than the Hawaii chart: North America to Japan with a connection outside Japan sits in zone 1-B, at 58,500 miles one-way in business and 93,500 in first. A simple partner trip between North America and Hawaii alone is 42,500 in business. The whole itinerary prices at its highest cabin, so a first class A380 leg makes the trip a first class award.
ANA's partner rules allow up to two connections outside Japan on a one-way, and a connecting point cannot be a city that costs more to reach than the destination, which Honolulu on the way from the mainland to Tokyo does not. Partner itineraries like this are often easier to build by phone than on ANA's website.
Surcharges and Booking Windows
ANA adds a fuel surcharge to its own award flights, revised every two months. On tickets issued in September and October 2026 it is $223 per flight between Japan and Hawaii for trips starting outside Japan, and ¥35,800 for trips starting in Japan, so a round trip carries about $446 in surcharges on top of the miles and taxes.
