ANA The Room (2026): Is It Worth It, Which US Routes Have It, What It Costs and How to Book It With Miles
The widest business class seat flying, behind a door, on a short list of 777-300ER routes between Tokyo and the US. Our data on exactly which flights have it, what ANA business costs and the three programs that book it cheaply.
By Biirdee Travel, Luxury Travel Concierge · Updated October 29, 2026

The Short Answer
- Worth it, and worth routing for: The Room is about twice the width of a normal business seat, with a door, and it costs nothing extra over ANA's other business class. The only trick is getting the 777-300ER.
- Our data holds five nonstop routes from the US for The Room, each one checked against the schedule snapshot between 27 August and 2 September 2026.
- Our Tokyo page's published fare bands for the US routes are the cost anchor below; ANA charges the same business fare whether the aircraft has The Room or not.
- Three miles doors: 52,500 points through Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, 50,000 miles through ANA Mileage Club, 75,000 miles through United MileagePlus, all one-way, with the Flying Club chart the cheapest.
- Against Japan Airlines business: The Room wins on space and privacy on the 777 routes; JAL's newest A350-1000 cabin is the closer match, and JAL flies more US cities.
Is The Room Worth It?
Yes. The Room is the seat that reset what a business class cabin could be when ANA introduced it in 2019: each seat is a small room with a sliding door, roughly double the width of a conventional business seat, so a couple in the centre pair can sit together on a sofa before the bed is made, and a 24-inch screen. It is the only business class our desk puts in the same breath as some first class cabins, and ANA charges the same business fare whether the aircraft has it or not.
That is the whole art of booking it: The Room is on 777-300ER (the aircraft that also carries The Suite in first class), and ANA's other US routes fly the 787-9 and 787-10 on the other US routes, which carry the earlier staggered business class, which is a good business class without being special. The 777-300ER is the aircraft that also carries ANA's first class, The Suite, so the routes below are taken from our first class route map rather than typed: where our data shows The Suite, The Room is in the cabin behind it.
Where it is not worth a detour: if your trip starts somewhere ANA flies a 787, the 787 cabin is fine and the connection to a 777 route costs time. Fly The Room from the cities that have it and United Airlines Polaris or JAL from the ones that do not.
The Seat
Layout: 1-2-1 with a sliding door; the seats alternate forward- and rear-facing, and each is about twice the width of a conventional business seat, with a 24-inch screen. The rear-facing seats are the ones to pick for a solo traveller, since their width runs along the window side; the centre pairs are the ones for two travelling together. Fitted: 777-300ER (the aircraft that also carries The Suite in first class). Not fitted: the 787-9 and 787-10 on the other US routes, which carry the earlier staggered business class.
ANA's soft product is the same on every aircraft: a Japanese and a Western menu with the kaiseki-style courses ANA is known for, sake and shochu lists, and the lounges at Haneda and Narita with noodle bars. ANA's newest 787-9s carry a successor business seat with a door; it is not The Room, and our route data does not yet show it on a US pair.
Every ANA The Room Route From the US
Every nonstop pair between a US airport and ANA's network in our schedule snapshot (between 27 August and 2 September 2026), with the great-circle distance and the gate-to-gate estimate our route pages use. These are the routes The Room is sold on; the last column says how our data knows.
| Route | Distance | Est. flight time | Service | What our data says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New York JFK–Tokyo Haneda | 10,875 km | 13h 46m | Year-round | The aircraft in our first class map; The Room named on our Tokyo page |
| Chicago–Tokyo Haneda | 10,124 km | 12h 51m | Year-round | The aircraft in our first class map; The Room named on our Tokyo page |
| San Francisco–Tokyo Haneda | 8,286 km | 10h 36m | Year-round | The aircraft in our first class map; The Room named on our Tokyo page |
| Chicago–Tokyo Narita | 10,074 km | 12h 47m | Year-round | The aircraft in our first class map; The Room named on our Tokyo page |

Which US Cities Have The Room
Three US airports have a nonstop The Room route in our data: Chicago (2 routes), San Francisco (2 routes) and New York JFK (one route). The busiest far ends are Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita.
ANA also flies nonstop to Tokyo from Los Angeles, Washington, Houston, Seattle, Honolulu and (by season) other cities, on 787s with the earlier staggered business class; those routes are deliberately not in the table, because our data does not show the 777-300ER on them. The schedule behind the table was checked between 27 August and 2 September 2026; ANA swaps aircraft between routes, so confirm the 777-300ER on your date.
What The Room Costs
ANA sells one business fare per route whatever the aircraft, so The Room costs what ANA business costs; the Tokyo page's bands below give the published range from each part of the US, dated on the page.
Published Fare Bands on The Room Routes
The typical published round-trip business class ranges our destination pages give for Tokyo, each dated by its page; the notes say which airlines and routings the band covers.
| Destination | Route | Typical published fare | Notes | As of |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tokyo | From the U.S. West Coast | $4,500–$8,500 round trip | Nonstop from Los Angeles or San Francisco on All Nippon, Japan Airlines, United or Singapore Airlines. Published fares as of September 2026; our sourced fares land under this. | October 2026 |
| Tokyo | From the U.S. East Coast and Southeast | $5,500–$11,000 round trip | New York, Washington, Boston and Miami, whether the trip goes over a US gateway such as Los Angeles, Chicago or Dallas/Fort Worth, or through Seoul, Hong Kong or Doha. | October 2026 |
| Tokyo | From continental Europe | €3,600–€6,800 round trip | Japan Airlines from Frankfurt and KLM from Amsterdam in just under twelve hours, Swiss from Zurich in about twelve, Iberia from Madrid closer to thirteen and a half; Gulf one-stops frequently undercut all four. | October 2026 |
| Tokyo | From Gulf hubs and Istanbul | $3,300–$6,500 round trip | Emirates from Dubai in about 10h30m, Qatar Airways from Doha in about 10h30m, Turkish Airlines from Istanbul in about 11h30m. | October 2026 |
| Tokyo | From Asian hubs (ICN, PVG, HKG, BKK, SIN) | $1,800–$4,500 round trip | Two to seven hours in the air. The short hops from Seoul and Shanghai are regional cabins rather than lie-flat, while Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong are flown with proper long-haul seats, and it is the reason a one-stop through Asia sometimes beats the transpacific nonstop on price. | October 2026 |
| Tokyo | Peak (late March, Golden Week, New Year) | Top of every range above | Cherry blossom, the 29 April to 5 May holiday block and 28 December to 4 January. Discounted business inventory on the US nonstops closes four to six months ahead of these windows, well before the published fare moves. | October 2026 |
Booking The Room With Miles, and for Less Than the Published Fare
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club: 52,500 points one-way in ANA business class from the US West Coast, 60,000 from the East Coast, from the desk library's copy of the Flying Club chart (as of September 2026).
ANA Mileage Club: 50,000 miles one-way in ANA business class from the US plus about $370 in carrier charges, low season one-way; 165,000 round trip in high season (as of September 2026).
United MileagePlus: 75,000 miles one-way in ANA business class from the US, the low end of the 75,000 to 110,000 range saver-level ANA space has priced at, with no surcharges (as of June 2026).
The Flying Club chart is the cheapest door and the hardest to use: Virgin Atlantic can only book what ANA releases to partners, which on the 777-300ER routes is thin in business and rare in first, and Virgin's phone agents see the same space as its website. ANA Mileage Club sees more of its own space and adds the fuel surcharge; MileagePlus pays more miles for the same seat without the surcharge. Our desk prices all three against the fare on the exact date.
Below the published fare, ANA is a sourceable airline from the US, and the desk's sourced business fares on the Japan nonstops sit under the published figure on most dates. A one-way award through Flying Club out and a sourced fare back is the pairing the desk uses most on this route.
The Room vs Japan Airlines Business Class
On the seat, The Room wins against every JAL cabin but one. JAL's 777-300ER and 787 business class is the Sky Suite, a 1-2-1 (or 2-2-2 on some 787s) without a door that was excellent in 2013 and ordinary now; JAL's A350-1000, flying from Tokyo to New York, Dallas and Los Angeles, carries a new 1-2-1 with a door and a headphone-free audio system that is the closer match to The Room, and the two are a fair fight.
On the network, JAL serves more US cities nonstop and flies from Narita and Haneda both; on the ground, both are strong at Haneda. On miles, JAL through AAdvantage and Atmos Rewards is the cheaper award on most dates; ANA through Flying Club is the cheaper award on the dates it is available.
Our pick: The Room on any route in the table; JAL's A350-1000 on New York, Dallas and Los Angeles against ANA's 787; and the better fare on the day everywhere else. The desk prices ANA and JAL on every Tokyo quote.
The Traps We Steer Clients Around
The aircraft swap. A Room booking is an ANA business booking; when ANA substitutes a 787 on a 777-300ER route, you get the staggered seat and no compensation. Check the seat map at booking and a week out; The Room is 1-2-1 with the seats alternating direction.
The Flying Club space. Virgin can book only what ANA releases to partners, which is thin on the 777 routes. Have the ANA Mileage Club or MileagePlus price ready as the fallback.
The Haneda versus Narita question. The Room flies from both; Haneda is 30 minutes from central Tokyo, Narita an hour or more. On a same-fare choice, the desk books Haneda.
Where These Numbers Come From
Every route in the table is checked against the schedule snapshot behind our route pages (between 27 August and 2 September 2026), so a route appears only if the airline flies it nonstop; distance and flight time are the same estimates those pages use. The last column says how our own data knows The Room is on it: "the aircraft in our first class map" means the aircraft that carries The Room is the one our first class route data lists on the pair; "named on our page" means the destination page for one end of the route names The Room in its airline notes. Seat facts are ANA's published description of the cabin as of October 2026; award prices are the programs' published charts or our desk library, dated where quoted.
The routes are the 777-300ER routes in our first class map (the aircraft that carries The Suite, our ANA The Suite guide), checked against the schedule snapshot; the fare band is quoted from our Tokyo page; the Flying Club and ANA Mileage Club figures are the desk library's September 2026 copies of the charts.
ANA The Room FAQs
Is ANA The Room worth it?
Yes: a seat about twice the width of a normal business seat, behind a door, at the same business fare ANA charges on its 787s. It is on the 777-300ER only, so the booking skill is choosing a route and date that aircraft flies.
Which routes have The Room from the US?
In our data, five routes: New York JFK to Tokyo Haneda, Chicago to Tokyo Haneda, San Francisco to Tokyo Haneda, Chicago to Tokyo Narita, San Francisco to Tokyo Narita, the 777-300ER pairs in our first class route map, checked against the schedule between 27 August and 2 September 2026. ANA's other US routes fly 787s with the earlier business seat.
How much does The Room cost?
What ANA business costs on the route, whatever the aircraft: our Tokyo page's published bands run from the US West Coast and East Coast ranges in the table above, each dated. A sourced fare through our desk comes in below the published figure.
How do I book The Room with points?
Flying Club is the cheapest door and sees the least space; ANA Mileage Club sees the most and adds the surcharge.
The Room or JAL business class?
The Room against JAL's Sky Suite on the 777 or 787: The Room, clearly. The Room against JAL's new A350-1000 cabin with its door: a fair fight, decided by the fare and the airport on the day. Our desk prices both on every Tokyo quote.
Which US airports have The Room?
Chicago, San Francisco and New York JFK in our data. Los Angeles, Washington, Houston, Seattle and Honolulu get the 787 cabin.
