United Polaris (2026): Is It Worth It, Every Route From the US, What It Costs and How to Book It With Miles

The Short Answer

  • Worth it for the network and the consistency: every United widebody carries the same 1-2-1 Polaris seat, so a booking on 140 long-haul routes gets the same bed. It is not the best seat flying; it is the one you can get to the most places.
  • United Airlines flies 140 nonstop routes between the US and its network in our schedule snapshot (between 27 August and 2 September 2026), and Polaris is on every one of them.
  • Our London, Tokyo and Frankfurt pages' published fare bands for the US routes are the cost anchor below; United prices Polaris dynamically, so the date and the hub matter more than the route.
  • Two miles doors: 70,000 miles one-way through United MileagePlus and 60,000 miles one-way through Air Canada Aeroplan, before United's own dynamic pricing moves the first one.
  • Against Delta Air Lines Delta One: Polaris reaches more places and the new cabins close the door gap; Delta One has the door today on the A350 and A330neo, and the better transcontinental product.

Is Polaris Worth It?

Yes, if you value knowing what you will get. United finished fitting the Polaris seat across its long-haul fleet in 2022, so a 767, 777 or 787 on an international route carries the same 1-2-1 layout, direct aisle access for every seat, a bed just over six feet, Saks Fifth Avenue bedding and the Polaris lounges at Newark, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Los Angeles and Washington Dulles. That consistency is rare: most competitors fly two or three business cabins and the aircraft decides which one you get.

The seat itself is a generation behind the best. Until the cabins delivered from late 2025, Polaris has no door, the footwell is tight in the odd-numbered rows closest to the aisle, and the even-numbered window seats, set against the window with a console between seat and aisle, are the ones to pick. United's new interior adds a privacy door to every suite and eight larger Polaris Studio suites at the front of the 787-9s that arrive with it; it will be years before it reaches the whole fleet.

Where it is not worth a premium: a route where a competitor's newer seat flies the same pair at the same fare. On New York to London, British Airways Club Suite and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class both have a door; on the West Coast to Tokyo, ANA The Room is a different class of seat. Polaris wins those on schedule, on miles, or on price, not on the seat.

The Seat

Layout: 1-2-1 on every long-haul aircraft; the cabins delivered from late 2025 add a privacy door to every suite and eight larger Polaris Studio suites at the front. Fitted: 767-300ER; 767-400ER; 777-200ER; 777-300ER; 787-8; 787-9; 787-10. the 757s on the thinner transatlantic routes carry lie-flat seats in a 2-2 layout. The 777-300ER carries the densest Polaris cabin at 60 seats; the 767-300ER the smallest at 46, with the highest ratio of window seats, which is why the desk likes it on the East Coast to Europe runs.

Soft product is where Polaris earns its name: a pre-departure drink, a multi-course dinner, the Polaris lounge with sit-down dining before departure at the six hubs, and a cooling gel pillow and mattress pad on request. The lounges are for same-day Polaris passengers only, so a Star Alliance business passenger on another airline does not get in.

Which US Cities Have Polaris

Seven US airports have a nonstop Polaris route in our data: Newark (45 routes), San Francisco (27 routes), Washington Dulles (22 routes), Chicago (19 routes), Houston (12 routes) and Los Angeles (10 routes), and one more airports. The busiest far ends are London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Munich, Tokyo Narita and Amsterdam.

The table is long because United's long-haul network is: 70 foreign airports have a nonstop from a US gateway in our snapshot, checked between 27 August and 2 September 2026, and the seasonal rows (marked) are the summer-only leisure routes from Newark and Washington to the Mediterranean. Polaris is also sold on the premium transcontinental runs, Newark to San Francisco and Los Angeles, on the same widebodies; those two rows are in the table.

What Polaris Costs

United prices Polaris dynamically by date and demand rather than by a published chart, and the same seat can double in price between a Tuesday in February and a Friday in June. The dated anchors are the published bands our destination pages give for London, Tokyo and Frankfurt, the three busiest Polaris markets.

Published Fare Bands on Polaris Routes

The typical published round-trip business class ranges our destination pages give for London, Tokyo and Frankfurt, each dated by its page; the notes say which airlines and routings the band covers.

Booking Polaris With Miles, and for Less Than the Published Fare

United MileagePlus: 70,000 miles one-way in United business class from the US to Europe, the low end of United's dynamic pricing on its own Polaris flights; most dates price well above it, and partner flights booked with MileagePlus hold fixed levels (as of June 2026).

Air Canada Aeroplan: 60,000 miles one-way in United business class from the US to Europe, Aeroplan's distance chart for a partner business class award of 4,001 to 6,000 miles, with no carrier surcharges on United (as of June 2026).

United's own award pricing on Polaris floats with the cash fare, so the low figure above is a floor seen on off-peak dates, not a rate; the saver space that prices there is released in waves and favours Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Partner programs are the fixed-price door: Aeroplan's distance chart, and Turkish Miles&Smiles and Avianca LifeMiles at similar levels, price a United Polaris seat without surcharges, and the desk books through them when United's own number has run away.

Below the published fare, Polaris is one of the easier products to source: United sells into the consolidator and corporate channels our desk uses, and a sourced business fare on a United nonstop typically lands under the published figure by a margin that grows with the fare. Send the dates and we price the sourced fare against the award.

Polaris vs Delta One

On the seat, Delta One is ahead today: the Delta One Suite on the A350-900, the A330-900 and the refitted A330s has a sliding door, and Delta's 767s have the older open seat, which is roughly where the whole Polaris fleet sits until the new cabins spread. On the transcontinental runs, Delta One on the A330-900 or A350 beats Polaris on a 767 or 777 for most people.

On the network, Polaris wins by a distance: United flies nonstop to 70 foreign airports from the US in our snapshot, Delta to fewer, and United's Pacific network from San Francisco and its Africa and India routes have no Delta equivalent. On miles, Delta's dynamic pricing runs higher at the top than United's, and United has the better partner doors.

Our pick: Delta One where both fly the pair and the Delta aircraft is an A350 or A330; Polaris everywhere else, which is most places. The two are closer on soft product than their reputations suggest.

The Traps We Steer Clients Around

The seat number. Odd-numbered seats sit against the aisle with the footwell at its narrowest; even-numbered window seats (the "true window" seats) are the ones to book. The seat map shows which is which, and the desk selects them at ticketing.

The 757 to Europe. Newark to Dublin, Edinburgh, Shannon and a few smaller cities fly on a 757 with lie-flat seats in a 2-2 layout, sold as Polaris; a window seat there means climbing over a neighbour. Fine for a six-hour flight, worth knowing.

The lounge rule. Polaris lounges admit same-day Polaris passengers on United or a partner long-haul flight only; a Polaris ticket on a domestic connection does not open the door at the connecting hub until the long-haul leg.

Where These Numbers Come From

Every route in the table is checked against the schedule snapshot behind our route pages (between 27 August and 2 September 2026), so a route appears only if the airline flies it nonstop; distance and flight time are the same estimates those pages use. The last column says how our own data knows Polaris is on it: "the aircraft in our first class map" means the aircraft that carries Polaris is the one our first class route data lists on the pair; "named on our page" means the destination page for one end of the route names Polaris in its airline notes. Seat facts are United Airlines's published description of the cabin as of October 2026; award prices are the programs' published charts or our desk library, dated where quoted.

The fare bands are quoted from our London, Tokyo and Frankfurt pages, each dated on the page. The route table keeps to pairs of 4,500 km or more plus the two premium transcontinental runs, which is where United sells Polaris.

United Polaris FAQs

Is United Polaris worth it?

Yes for the consistency and the network: the same 1-2-1 flat bed on every United widebody, 140 long-haul routes from the US in our data, and Polaris lounges at six hubs. The seat has no door until the new cabins spread from late 2025, so on a pair where a competitor flies a suite with a door at the same fare, the competitor wins on the seat.

Which routes have Polaris from the US?

Every United long-haul route: 140 nonstop pairs between seven US airports and 70 foreign ones in our schedule snapshot (between 27 August and 2 September 2026), led by Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles and Chicago. The table above lists every one with its flight time.

How much does Polaris cost?

United prices Polaris dynamically, so there is no list price. The fares table above quotes the published business class bands our London, Tokyo and Frankfurt pages give for the US routes, each dated; a sourced fare through our desk comes in below the published figure.

How do I book Polaris with points?

United MileagePlus: 70,000 miles one-way in United business class from the US to Europe, the low end of United's dynamic pricing on its own Polaris flights; most dates price well above it, and partner flights booked with MileagePlus hold fixed levels (as of June 2026). Air Canada Aeroplan: 60,000 miles one-way in United business class from the US to Europe, Aeroplan's distance chart for a partner business class award of 4,001 to 6,000 miles, with no carrier surcharges on United (as of June 2026). United's own number floats with the cash fare; the partner programs hold their chart, so the desk prices both before transferring.

Polaris or Delta One?

Delta One for the seat where Delta flies an A350 or A330 with the suite door on the same pair; Polaris for the network, the partner award doors and everywhere Delta does not fly. On soft product they are closer than their reputations.

Origin, destination, rough dates, cabin. The form takes two minutes and commits you to nothing.

  2. Specialists price it every way

Cash vs. miles vs. partner fares across alliances: every premium-cabin option priced individually for your dates, with honest advice when a published fare is already the right answer.

  3. Book and fly with backup

A dedicated concierge from quote to gate: schedule changes, seats, and disruptions handled for you.

Need the hotel too? The same team books luxury hotels at the direct rate with partner perks attached.
