Cathay Pacific First Class (2026): Where It Still Flies, First vs Aria Suite Business, and How to Book It Before It Goes

The Short Answer

Cathay Pacific first class flies on its unretrofitted 777-300ERs, and it is disappearing. The desk library's September 2026 note: the new Aria Suite business cabin is already on 18 of Cathay's 30 777-300ERs, the full retrofit runs to late 2027, the retrofit removes first class entirely, and a new first class waits for the 777-9, around late 2027 or later.

Where can you still get it? Our own Cathay award scanner has read the award calendar of 168 Cathay routes (66 of them long-haul) every few hours since 19 May 2026. In that time, first class award seats have opened on just three long-haul routes: New York JFK, Los Angeles and London Heathrow, all from Hong Kong, plus the regional Hong Kong–Beijing flight. From the US that means New York JFK and Los Angeles. Cathay also flies to Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco in our schedule data, but our scanner has never seen a first class seat open there.

On miles, Cathay's Standard first class award costs 160,000 Asia Miles one-way from New York and 125,000 from Los Angeles, per our scanner's readings of Cathay's own calendar, against 119,000 and 91,000 in business on the same flights.

Booking Cathay First With Asia Miles and Partners

Asia Miles is the direct door. Cathay no longer publishes its charts, but our scanner reads the Standard price straight off Cathay's award calendar: 160,000 miles one-way in first from New York, 125,000 from Los Angeles and London. The desk library adds the rules that bite: Cathay's fuel surcharge rose up to 41% in August 2026 (about $175 per long-haul sector), Standard awards cannot be waitlisted, space loads about 360 days out with a second wave inside about two weeks of departure, and awards are only for the member and registered nominees.

Getting miles there: Citi ThankYou, Capital One, Bilt and Wells Fargo transfer to Asia Miles 1:1, Amex Membership Rewards at 5:4 since March 2026, and Chase not at all, per the desk's transfer matrix. Partner doors exist too: Atmos Rewards publishes Cathay first between the US and Hong Kong from 70,000 points one-way, by phone only, and fed only by Bilt among the major banks.

The Traps We Steer Clients Around

The retrofit lottery. The desk library's aircraft notes flag Cathay's 777-300ER as a subfleet that mixes old and new cabins on the same flight numbers: a flight that shows first class this week may be an Aria Suite aircraft, with no first class, next month. Check at booking and again about 48 hours before departure.

The routes without first. Our scanner has never seen first class open on Cathay's Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco flights, and the desk's own tickets on several of those routes were on A350s. If first class is the point, fly from New York JFK and Los Angeles.

The lounge. The Wing First at Hong Kong reopened in April 2026, initially for Cathay first class passengers and Diamond members, with oneworld Emeralds directed to The Pier First; The Wing Business is closed for renovation until 2027.

Where These Numbers Come From

Every route in these tables is checked against the schedule snapshot behind our route pages, so a route appears only if the airline flies it; distance and flight time are the same estimates those pages use. The evidence column says how we know first class is on it: "Desk library" is Biirdee's own carrier and aircraft reference, updated September 2026; "Ticketed by Biirdee" means our desk has issued first class tickets on that airline there between November 2024 and September 2026; "Award scan" means our award scanners have seen first class seats released on it; "Fare scan" means our fare scans have priced a first class fare on the nonstop. Our Cathay scanner reads Cathay's Standard award calendar for Cathay-operated flights about every four to six hours; a route with no first class openings in our window either has no first class cabin or never released a seat to Asia Miles, and we do not claim which.
