Emirates vs Etihad vs Qatar First Class (2026): Which Gulf First Class You Can Actually Fly From the US
Three Gulf airlines, three very different first class stories: one flies it nonstop from most of its US cities, one flies it only beyond Abu Dhabi, and one is quietly shrinking it. Our tickets and scans show which is which.

The Short Answer
Of the three, only Emirates reliably flies first class nonstop from the US. It serves twelve US airports in our schedule data, and on ten of them our tickets or scans show first class. Etihad's First Apartment and The Residence fly on six A380 routes from Abu Dhabi, none of them in the US: New York JFK is an A350-1000 and 787-9 route with no first class. Qatar sells first class only on its 10 A380s and a few 777 routes, and the desk library's advice is to treat it as a bonus, not a promise.
So the comparison splits in two. For first class from home, it is Emirates, and the question is only which aircraft. For a separate armchair and bed in the sky, it is Etihad's Apartment, reached through Toronto, London, Paris or an onward sector from Abu Dhabi. And for Qatar, the product to plan around is Qsuite business.
Our own ledger reflects that: between November 2024 and September 2026 our desk issued 64 Emirates first class tickets, 7 on Etihad and 5 on Qatar.

Which One to Book
Emirates, if you want first class from your own city. The desk's rule is to book the A380, for the shower spa and the 1-2-1 business behind it, and to check the aircraft again before departure: a swap to an unretrofitted 777 means no shower and 2-3-2 business. Our Emirates First guide lists every US airport with the evidence behind it.
Etihad, if the cabin itself is the point. The Apartment is a separate armchair and bed rather than one seat, and The Residence, a tier above it, flies on the same A380s. From the US, fly Etihad's newest business class to Abu Dhabi and take the Apartment onward to Bangkok, Singapore or Tokyo, or position to Toronto, London or Paris. Qatar, for Qsuite. The desk library puts Qsuite on every A350-1000 and 787-9 and most 777-300ERs, and names the A350-1000 routes (London, New York JFK, Singapore, Sydney) as the safe picks. If a Qatar A380 with first class happens to fly your route, enjoy the Al Safwa lounge, but do not build the trip around it.
Booking With Points
Emirates: Skywards is the home program, and Qantas Frequent Flyer is a genuine second door, used for 8 of our 26 Emirates First awards. Amex transfers to Skywards at 5:4 and Capital One at 2:1.5, per the desk's transfer notes.
Etihad: Etihad Guest, or AAdvantage, whose aa.com shows Etihad premium space only about 30 days out. Amex Membership Rewards dropped Etihad as a partner in June 2026.
Qatar: Privilege Club prices Qsuite from about 70,000 Avios one-way off-peak between the US and Doha, per the desk library, and any Avios reach it through Combine Avios; AAdvantage and Atmos Rewards publish Qsuite from 70,000 too. Qatar reintroduced per-segment redemption fees in 2026, so quote the fees with the Avios.
Where These Numbers Come From
Every route in these tables is checked against the schedule snapshot behind our route pages, so a route appears only if the airline flies it; distance and flight time are the same estimates those pages use. The evidence column says how we know first class is on it: "Desk library" is Biirdee's own carrier and aircraft reference, updated September 2026; "Ticketed by Biirdee" means our desk has issued first class tickets on that airline there between November 2024 and September 2026; "Award scan" means our award scanners have seen first class seats released on it; "Fare scan" means our fare scans have priced a first class fare on the nonstop. Data as of 23 September 2026.
Award prices are single observations from our award scanners in September 2026, one-way per person before taxes and carrier charges. Qatar has no route list here because the desk library does not treat its first class as a product to plan around.
