Etihad First Apartment and The Residence (2026): Every A380 Route, and How to Fly It From the US

The Short Answer

Etihad's First Apartment, a separate armchair and bed rather than one convertible seat, and The Residence above it are A380 products, and in 2026 the A380 flies six routes from Abu Dhabi: London Heathrow, Paris, Toronto, Bangkok, Singapore and Tokyo Narita. That is the desk library's September 2026 list, and our schedule data confirms Etihad flying every one of them.

What it does not include is the United States. The desk's note is blunt: the A380 left the US, and New York JFK is now an A350-1000 and 787-9 route with Etihad's newest business class and no first class. Etihad serves Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Washington Dulles, New York JFK and Chicago in our schedule data, and its 2026 North American growth is mostly 787 flying. For a US traveler, the Apartment is always a connection: Toronto, a transatlantic hop to London or Paris, or an onward sector from Abu Dhabi to Asia.

How to Fly the Apartment From the US

Route one is Toronto. Abu Dhabi–Toronto is an Apartment route in the desk library, and for travelers in the northeastern US or the Midwest, a positioning flight to Toronto is shorter than any transatlantic alternative. Route two is Europe: fly any airline to London Heathrow or Paris and board the A380 to Abu Dhabi there, which suits a trip that already includes Europe. Route three is the Asian onward sector: fly Etihad business from any of its US airports to Abu Dhabi, then take the Apartment on to Bangkok, Singapore or Tokyo Narita.

The third route is the one that makes the most of Etihad itself, because the business class on the US flights is the newest in the fleet: the desk library notes that Etihad's new-delivery 787-9s and A350-1000s carry its latest business seat, with doors, while the older Business Studios are a tier below but still a solid 1-2-1. On the way home, the order reverses, and Abu Dhabi preclearance means you land in the US as a domestic arrival.

Booking the Apartment With Cash or Miles

Our desk issued 7 Etihad first class tickets between November 2024 and September 2026: 5 for cash and 2 on AAdvantage miles. On miles, the desk's AAdvantage notes say Etihad premium cabins book on aa.com only about 30 days before departure (call otherwise). One data point on Etihad Guest's own pricing: our award scanner recorded Etihad first class from Tokyo to Paris at 306,001 Etihad Guest miles one-way in September 2026.

Two program changes matter if you plan to move points. The desk's transfer matrix records Amex Membership Rewards dropping Etihad as a partner in June 2026, so the easiest US bank path into Etihad Guest is gone. And since the Apartment never touches the US, any award itinerary from home combines it with another flight, which is where a desk earns its keep: price the whole journey as a cash fare and as an award before committing either way.

Abu Dhabi: The Preclearance Coaching Clients Need

US Customs and Border Protection preclearance runs from a purpose-built Terminal A facility at Abu Dhabi (May 2026). The desk's coaching is specific: check in about four hours out, be at preclearance at least 60 to 90 minutes before departure, and use the Etihad first or business lounge before the preclearance queue, because the post-preclearance airside is thin. The payoff is landing in the US as a domestic arrival, with no immigration line.

Every route in these tables is checked against the schedule snapshot behind our route pages, so a route appears only if the airline flies it; distance and flight time are the same estimates those pages use. The evidence column says how we know first class is on it: "Desk library" is Biirdee's own carrier and aircraft reference, updated September 2026; "Ticketed by Biirdee" means our desk has issued first class tickets on that airline there between November 2024 and September 2026; "Award scan" means our award scanners have seen first class seats released on it; "Fare scan" means our fare scans have priced a first class fare on the nonstop.
