Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi: Villas, Rates and Review

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi opened in 2019 on three islands around a lagoon in the South Malé Atoll, 45 minutes from Malé by private yacht. It is the dearest Waldorf Astoria we priced, and one of the best liked. On 3 October 2026 the cheapest way in was an overwater villa with its own pool at $3,779–4,003 a night, breakfast included and refundable, and the guests who reviewed it scored it 9.65 out of 10. The catch is the size of that record: only 71 recent reviews, going back to August 2019, so the score is a good sign rather than proof.

Our verdict: book it if you want a large villa with its own pool, a resort with plenty of restaurants and a kids' club that runs through the teens, flexible terms and the option of paying with Hilton Honors points. Look elsewhere if your dates are fixed on the New Year week or on June and July, when our engine had nothing at Ithaafushi, or if the budget is tighter: Four Seasons Kuda Huraa priced at $875 a night in July. And if guest scores decide it, One&Only Reethi Rah scored 9.88 across a full 100 recent reviews and cost less than Ithaafushi on our November stay.

Two things stand out. First, every rate we found bought a villa: the engine flagged both priced stays as villas only, so there is no cheaper room category to step down to. Second, the rate terms are generous: on both stays the lowest rate already included breakfast and free cancellation, and the breakfast rate for the same villa was cheaper than room only. With 71 reviews over seven years, we would not over-read the topic shares, but the pattern is consistent: the guests who mentioned food (19%) averaged a perfect 10, and those who mentioned price (also 19%) still averaged 9.0.

When to Go, on Our Numbers

November was the priciest month ($4,530 midweek) and the cheapest were August and September ($3,092), with May ($3,095) close behind; from December to April it held at $3,491–3,725. The difference between the dearest and cheapest month is about $1,400 a night. June and July returned no rooms at all, and neither did our 27–30 December stay, so for summer and the New Year week ask early rather than counting on availability.

On price, Ithaafushi was the dearest of the eight on our November stay ($4,003, against $3,251 at Reethi Rah and $2,926 at the Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands) but mid-pack in March ($3,779), below Soneva Fushi, JOALI and Reethi Rah. Over New Year only Four Seasons Kuda Huraa had a villa ($4,732), and in July Ithaafushi had nothing while six rivals priced at $875–2,793. On guest scores, only One&Only Reethi Rah beats it on a full, recent sample: 9.88 across 100 reviews since June 2025. The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands (9.69) and Landaa Giraavaru (9.82) score higher on samples too small to lean on, and Kuda Huraa sits lower at 9.28.

Our reading: Ithaafushi and Reethi Rah are the two to shortlist if reviews matter most; Reethi Rah has the stronger record and the summer availability, Ithaafushi the breakfast-and-refund terms we saw and the Hilton Honors option (Kerzner, which runs One&Only, has no points programme). Villas, Restaurants and the Spa

Every villa at Ithaafushi has an infinity pool. Forbes gives the Overwater Villas 3,045 sq ft and the Beach Villas more than 2,500. At the top sits Ithaafushi, The Private Island: 344,445 sq ft with two villas, five pools, an overwater spa, a cinema and its own staff. On our engine the lowest rates bought a King Overwater Villa with Pool (November) and a Two Queen Bedded Overwater Villa with Pool (March); the King Grand Overwater Villa with Pool cost $5,949 a night in March and the Two Bedroom Beach Villa with Pool, the top category on our November stay, $10,321. Eleven villa types were on sale in November and sixteen in March.

There are 11 places to eat and drink, among them Terra (tables in treetop bamboo nests), The Ledge, Yasmeen (Middle Eastern), Zuma Maldives, Li Long (Chinese), Tasting Table, Glow and the Amber bar. The Waldorf Astoria Spa covers more than 107,000 sq ft and has glass-bottomed treatment pavilions. For families there is the Young Discovery Park, with a water play area, for children through to teens, and a resident marine biologist. The Maldives has no MICHELIN restaurant guide, so there are no stars to look for here.
