Terminal 1 is the heart of the operation (home to the full-service airlines and effectively all of Malpensa’s intercontinental flying), while Terminal 2, a separate building linked by shuttle and by the airport’s rail line, functions largely as a low-cost base. For most meet & greet bookings the geography that matters is by road: about an hour to central Milan depending on traffic, and noticeably less to Lake Como, Varese and the Swiss border, for which Malpensa is genuinely the convenient airport.
Arriving from outside the Schengen area you clear Italian passport control at Malpensa, and when Milan is your first EU stop that holds even with an onward European connection.
