Alternatives to Amanvari: Six Cabo Resorts and Two Other Amans, Compared

Amanvari opened on 1 August 2026 as Aman's first resort in Mexico, and it is the smallest Aman in the Americas: 18 casitas on Baja's East Cape, where, in Aman's words, "desert, ocean and estuary converge". Three miles of swimmable Sea of Cortez shoreline, a 1,500-acre estate with its own orchards, Sesui for Japanese and Arva for Italian, Luma around an open fire, a temazcal in the spa, and the Costa Palmas marina and golf club next door. Winter 2026-27 is its first real peak and the whale season, and it is selling the way a new Aman sells.

So the question we get most this autumn is not "is Amanvari good" but "what do I book when it is full, or when $3,000 a night is a stretch". The answer depends on which part of Amanvari you wanted. This is our shortlist, sorted that way, and it is deliberately not a list of every expensive hotel in Cabo.

The strongest three

If you want the short version: Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas for the same East Cape setting, Zadún for an Aman-like desert retreat with a private pool, and Las Ventanas al Paraíso for a villa with real living space. Start there. The rest of the list is for a more specific brief.

Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas: the same beach

The closest geographical substitute, because it is inside the same Costa Palmas development as Amanvari: the same swimmable East Cape water, the same marina, the same golf course, an hour from the airport. The difference is scale. This is a full-service Four Seasons with pools, a kids' club and a big dining line-up rather than an 18-casita retreat, which for a family is the point. Ask for an oceanfront room with a plunge pool, or a villa, to get the privacy Amanvari gives by default. Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve: the Aman-like one

Our pick for the Amanvari feeling without the Amanvari waiting list. Zadún at Puerto Los Cabos is desert scenery, indoor-outdoor rooms with deep terraces and outdoor showers, and private pools in the upper categories, run with the Reserve tier's quiet, personal service. Two honest caveats: it is a substantially larger property, with 113 keys, and its beach is on the Pacific-facing side of San José, so it is not a swim-off-the-sand choice. Compare the suites and villas carefully; the private-pool categories are where it matches Aman.

Las Ventanas al Paraíso: the villa answer

When the priority is a spacious private villa rather than minimalist design, Las Ventanas is the best alternative in Cabo. Its villas come with private infinity pools, generous living space and butler service, and the aesthetic is traditionally Mexican, hand-painted tile and terracotta, where Aman is contemporary. Book a one-bedroom oceanfront villa or one of the signature villas, not an entry-level suite; the entry suites are lovely but they are not the reason to choose this hotel over Amanvari. One&Only Palmilla: the classic beachfront

One&Only Palmilla is the grande dame of the corridor, a 1956 estate on a point with one of the few swimmable beaches between the two towns. It is a classic luxury beach resort rather than a secluded casita property, so choose it for the beach, the Jean-Georges restaurant and the service depth, and compare its suites and villas if privacy and space matter most. Montage Los Cabos: for swimming and snorkelling

Montage sits on Santa Maria Bay, a protected cove on the corridor where you walk straight in to swim, dive and snorkel, which most Cabo beaches do not allow. If the water was the reason you wanted Amanvari's East Cape, this is the nearest equivalent on the tourist corridor, in a 122-room-and-suite resort. Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal: a plunge pool in every room

If a private plunge pool is non-negotiable and you do not want to pay for a villa to get one, Pedregal gives every room, suite, casita and villa its own plunge pool and terrace. The setting is a dramatic cliff above the Pacific at the Cabo San Lucas end, reached through a private tunnel, so it is the opposite landscape to the East Cape's desert-meets-estuary calm. If you want another Aman, not another Cabo resort

Neither of these is a geographical substitute for Baja, but each keeps the Aman experience intact, and both are a short flight from the United States.

Amanyara, Turks and Caicos: the reef-and-beach escape

Amanyara sits on the west coast of Providenciales inside an 18,000-acre nature reserve, with half a mile of white sand on the Northwest Point Marine National Park and some of the Caribbean's best wall diving offshore. Pavilions open onto the landscape; the villas sit around black infinity pools with their own staff. One thing to know before you plan: Aman's page lists the resort as temporarily closed until 1 November 2026, so the winter season is the first chance to go back. Direct East Coast flights to Providenciales make it the lowest-friction Aman for Americans.

Amanera, Dominican Republic: cliffs, surf and golf

Amanera is Aman's contemporary clifftop at Playa Grande on the Dominican north coast: modernist casitas with private pools above a surf beach, jungle behind, and access to one of the region's great ocean golf courses next door.
