The Best Luxury Hotels in Barcelona, Honestly Ranked
A bank reborn as a Mandarin Oriental, the Ritz of 1919, a family hotel on Passeig de Gràcia since 1918, a tower on the beach and a modernisme landmark: the city's top tier, decoded.
By Biirdee Travel, Luxury Travel Concierge · Updated October 28, 2026

Where to stay in Barcelona comes down to the Eixample, the sea or the hill. The Eixample, the 19th-century grid that holds Gaudí's Casa Batlló and La Pedrera, has most of the city's grand hotels: Mandarin Oriental and the Majestic on Passeig de Gràcia, and El Palace on the Gran Via, a ten-minute walk from the top of La Rambla and fifteen from the cathedral in the Gothic Quarter. Gràcia begins where Passeig de Gràcia ends, at Casa Fuster. On the waterfront, Hotel Arts, run by Ritz-Carlton, stands on the beach by the Olympic Port, and up on Tibidabo, METT looks down on all of it. None of our picks is inside the Gothic Quarter or El Born: the Eixample keeps the old city a walk away and gives you wider streets and quieter nights.
The Short Answers
- Best overall: Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, Forbes Five-Star with Two MICHELIN Keys, 120 rooms on Passeig de Gràcia, the Michelin-starred Moments and a spa with an indoor pool.
- Best for history: El Palace Barcelona, the 1919 hotel born as the Ritz, with a pool in its Rooftop Garden and a Mayan-inspired spa.
- Best on the beach: Hotel Arts Barcelona, 44 stories by the Olympic Port, with Enoteca Paco Pérez's two Michelin stars, a family pool and an adults-only infinity pool.
- Best rooftop pools: El Palace's Rooftop Garden, the Majestic's unheated plunge pool at La Dolce Vitae (its bar opens in summer), Mandarin Oriental's dipping pool on Terrat (April to October) and Casa Fuster's terrace pool (May to September).
- Best for couples: Mandarin Oriental for the spa and Moments; Casa Fuster for Aleia's two Michelin stars and jazz at the Café Vienés; METT for the view from Tibidabo.
- Best for families: Hotel Arts for the beach, the family pool and the Arts Kids program; El Palace for its three-bedroom family suites in the center.
- Best value: Casa Fuster from about €300 a night, then the Majestic and Hotel Arts from about €400 (Hotel Arts was $474 a night on our November and March checks).
- When to go: May to June and September to October; on our 1 October checks Mandarin Oriental ran $968 a night for a March stay, $1,265 in July and $1,429 over New Year.

How to Choose
Couples have the deepest choice: Mandarin Oriental for Moments, the spa's indoor pool and Terrat in summer; El Palace for an Art Suite with a butler and the Rooftop Garden; Casa Fuster for Aleia's two Michelin stars and the jazz at the Café Vienés; and METT for a room above the city with the sea beyond it. Families do best with space and a pool: Hotel Arts has the beach at the door, a family pool and the Arts Kids program, and El Palace has three-bedroom family suites for seven, two-bedroom family rooms, supervised childcare and its rooftop pool. The Majestic's apartments, some sleeping four, are the alternative on Passeig de Gràcia.
On business, Hotel Arts has a Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, a business center and meeting rooms, while Mandarin Oriental and the Majestic have business centers on Passeig de Gràcia, a short walk from Passeig de Gràcia station, where the airport train stops. Travelers on their own want a central base and a bar that welcomes one: El Bar del Majestic has live piano most evenings in the middle of the boulevard, and Casa Fuster, at 105 rooms the most intimate of our central picks, has the Café Vienés and the Diagonal metro at its corner. METT is the one we would not book for a solo trip or a business one: it is up the hill, so every evening needs a car. Pair the city with Madrid, two and a half hours away by AVE, and see our Leading Hotels in Madrid and Barcelona for the LHW side of both cities.
Barcelona Hotel FAQs
What is the best hotel in Barcelona?
Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona: Forbes Five-Star, Two MICHELIN Keys, the Michelin-starred Moments and a spa with an indoor pool, on Passeig de Gràcia a three-minute walk from Casa Batlló. El Palace is the grandest historic hotel, and Hotel Arts the one on the beach, at $474 a night on our November check, well under half Mandarin Oriental's $1,192.
Which hotels are closest to the Sagrada Família?
None of our picks is within a twenty-minute walk of it. El Palace is the closest, about 23 minutes on foot, with the Majestic at about 24 and Mandarin Oriental and Casa Fuster at about 26, and the metro from Passeig de Gràcia gets you there in a few stops. El Palace's Rooftop Garden has the basilica on its skyline.
Eixample or the Gothic Quarter?
The Eixample, for most first visits. It has the grand hotels, Gaudí's Casa Batlló and La Pedrera on Passeig de Gràcia and wide, quieter streets, and from El Palace the cathedral in the Gothic Quarter is about a fifteen-minute walk. Choose the Gothic Quarter or El Born only if you want the medieval lanes at your door and accept the noise.
Are there boutique hotels in the Eixample?
Not among our picks: the Eixample's luxury tier runs from 120 rooms (Mandarin Oriental and El Palace) to 275 (the Majestic). Casa Fuster, with 105 rooms where Passeig de Gràcia meets Gràcia, is the most intimate central hotel we rank, and METT, with 70, is the smallest, on Tibidabo. Ask us for the smaller houses in the center and we will tell you which we would book.
Can I find a luxury hotel in Barcelona under $200 a night?
Not among the hotels we rank. The gentlest is Casa Fuster, from about €300 a night, with the Majestic and Hotel Arts from about €400. Rates climb in summer: Hotel Arts ran $474 a night on our November and March checks and $611 in July.

What Biirdee Does
A concierge travel agency: paid by the hotel, never by you
Biirdee Travel books luxury hotels through preferred-partner programs: you pay the same rate as booking direct, the partner benefits attach to your reservation, and a human concierge handles the details end to end.
Tell us the trip
Destination or property, rough dates, who’s traveling. The form takes two minutes and commits you to nothing.
A concierge replies within hours
A real person checks availability, compares properties honestly, and confirms the perks your stay qualifies for: upgrades, breakfast, and credits where available.
Book at the same rate as direct
The hotel pays our commission out of the rate you’d pay anyway, so the perks cost you nothing. Before and during the trip, one concierge on WhatsApp handles requests and changes.
Flying too? The same team books business and first class: flights and hotels aligned as one itinerary, one point of contact.
Biirdee · Preferred Partner
Barcelona, Booked Properly
The boulevard room or the sea side of the tower, rooftop pools checked for your dates, and Madrid by AVE sequenced after: same rate as direct, with the perks each stay qualifies for.
