The Peninsula Istanbul: Rooms, Rates & How to Book
The most beautiful setting of the twelve — a waterfront campus at Galataport where the ferries pass the pool.

The Peninsula Istanbul opened in February 2023 at Galataport, the redeveloped cruise terminal on the Karaköy waterfront, and it is arguably the most beautifully sited hotel the brand owns. Rather than one tower, it occupies four buildings around a courtyard — one of them the restored 1940s Karaköy passenger terminal, its original hall preserved — with roughly 177 rooms and a lawn running down to the Bosphorus.
The view is the whole argument: Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque sit directly across the water on the old-city skyline, and the strait between is in constant motion with ferries and tankers. For a first visit to Istanbul, waking up to that is hard to price.
Rooms, the Pool and Which Side to Book
Rooms were designed by Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu with the architecture by Emre Arolat, and they read Turkish rather than international-luxury generic — hammam-influenced bathrooms, brass, warm stone, textiles that belong to the city. Sizes are generous and the brand's technology package is present throughout.
Book Bosphorus-facing. Courtyard rooms are lovely and quieter, but the water is the reason to be here, and the price gap is usually modest relative to what it buys. The outdoor pool sits on the waterfront terrace with the old city in front of it, which is the photograph everyone takes and, in summer, the place you will spend the afternoon.

Gallada, the Spa and the City at the Door
Gallada is Fatih Tutak's rooftop restaurant — a Turkish-Asian kitchen from the chef behind the country's most decorated dining room, with a terrace angled at the old city. It is the meal to book on arrival night. Downstairs, The Lobby runs the brand's afternoon tea with a Turkish pastry programme, and the spa carries a proper hammam alongside the usual treatment suites.
Karaköy itself has become the most interesting neighbourhood in the city — galleries, coffee, the Istanbul Modern next door — and Galata Tower is a ten-minute uphill walk. The old city is one stop across the Galata Bridge; the hotel can put you on a private boat, which for a first orientation of Istanbul beats any car.
The Peninsula Istanbul FAQs
Which rooms have the best views?
Bosphorus-facing categories, looking across at Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Courtyard rooms are quieter and cheaper but miss the point of the location — pay the difference if you can.
Is Karaköy a good area to stay?
Yes, and it is now our default recommendation. Galleries, the Istanbul Modern and the city's best coffee and restaurant scene are on the doorstep, with the old city one bridge or a short boat ride away — closer to everything than Sultanahmet without being inside the tourist crush.
How much does The Peninsula Istanbul cost?
Entry rooms typically run about €700–900 a night, with Bosphorus categories above that. Spring and autumn are the peak seasons; deep summer is hot and July–August rates soften slightly.
How far is the airport?
Istanbul Airport is roughly 45 minutes to an hour by car depending on traffic; Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian side is longer. The hotel can also arrange a Bosphorus boat transfer for arrivals, which is worth doing once.
