The building at 19 Avenue Kléber has had several lives. It opened in 1908 as the Hôtel Majestic, housed UNESCO through the post-war years, and hosted the negotiations that produced the 1973 Paris Peace Accords. The Peninsula spent four years and a reported €430 million turning it back into a hotel, and when it opened in 2014 it became the brand's first European property — and the one that made the rest of the European expansion credible.
The restoration is the story. Craftsmen re-cut the stone, regilded the mouldings and rebuilt ceilings that had been boarded over for decades, then threaded the brand's technology invisibly through the result. It holds the French state's Palace distinction, and for a stay in Paris it competes directly with the Ritz, the Bristol and the Crillon.
Rooms, Rates and the Suites With Terraces
There are around 200 rooms — a small number for a building this size, because the conversion prioritised space. Entry categories are large by Paris standards, with the marble bathrooms, valet boxes and bedside panels the brand installs everywhere, plus a nail-drying station that guests either find delightful or ignore entirely.
The specialty suites are the reason people come back: several carry private rooftop terraces with unobstructed Eiffel Tower views, and a few have their own outdoor dining space and garden. They are among the most expensive rooms in the city and, for a milestone trip, among the few that genuinely justify it. Entry rooms typically start around €1,300 and climb steeply through the seasons.

L'Oiseau Blanc and the Rooftop
L'Oiseau Blanc takes its name from the biplane in which Nungesser and Coli attempted the first Paris–New York crossing in 1927 and vanished over the Atlantic; a replica hangs off the roof terrace. The restaurant looks straight down Avenue Kléber to the Eiffel Tower, and the terrace is the seat to request — at dusk, with the hourly sparkle, it is the most reliably spectacular table in Paris.
LiLi handles the Cantonese cooking the brand carries as a signature, in a room styled like a Chinese opera house. Le Lobby serves the afternoon tea under the restored glass roof, and the spa and pool occupy the basement levels. The Arc de Triomphe is a five-minute walk; Avenue Montaigne and the Trocadéro are barely further.
