The Peninsula spent more than three decades looking for a London site it considered worthy, and finally built at 1 Grosvenor Place — the corner of Hyde Park Corner, facing Wellington Arch, with Buckingham Palace gardens behind and Hyde Park across the road. It opened in September 2023 with roughly 190 rooms and 25 branded residences, and it immediately reset the top of the London market.
Peter Marino did the interiors, which means the art programme is real rather than decorative and the materials are absurd in the best way. The building is new but deliberately unshowy from the street; the drama is saved for the roof.
Rooms, Rates and What the Premium Buys
Rooms are among the largest in London — entry categories start around 50 square metres, which in this city is a suite almost anywhere else. Marino's interiors run to lacquer, bronze and commissioned art, and the brand's technology is at its most developed here: bedside panels, the valet box, and a level of in-room control that took the company decades to iterate toward.
Rates open around £1,300 and go up quickly; park-view and Wellington Arch-facing categories carry the premium and are worth it if you are only staying two or three nights. The hotel also fields a Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Series fleet in Peninsula green, plus a 1930s Phantom II kept for occasions.

Brooklands, Canton Blue and Afternoon Tea
Brooklands sits on the roof and is themed around British motor racing and aviation — a Concorde fuselage model runs the length of the room, and the terrace looks over Hyde Park Corner toward the park. Claude Bosi runs the kitchen and it has been among London's most decorated new openings since launch. Book it well ahead; it is not a walk-in.
Canton Blue takes the brand's Cantonese signature and stages it around the story of a nineteenth-century trading ship, and The Lobby serves an afternoon tea that has quickly become one of the harder London reservations. The spa, pool and wellness floors are unusually generous for a new-build in central London, where such space is normally the first thing value-engineered away.

Entry rooms generally open around £1,300 a night, making it the most expensive hotel in the portfolio. Park-facing categories and suites climb well beyond, and rates peak around Wimbledon, the summer season and December.
Is The Peninsula London worth it over Claridge's or the Connaught?
For space and newness, yes — entry rooms are substantially larger and the wellness floors are in a different league. The Mayfair grande dames win on patina and neighbourhood texture. Hyde Park Corner is the better address for the park; Mayfair is the better one for walking to dinner.
What is Brooklands?
The rooftop restaurant, run by Claude Bosi, themed on British motor racing and aviation with a Concorde model along the room and a terrace over Hyde Park Corner. Reserve well in advance — it is one of the city's hardest tables.
