Capella Hotels: Every Property, Rates & How to Book

Capella is what happens when a single family (Singapore's Kwee family, via Pontiac Land) decides to build the best hotel in each city it enters and accepts no compromises on the way. The portfolio is tiny (ten hotels, all in Asia-Pacific), but the hit rate is absurd: Capella Bangkok was named No. 1 in The World's 50 Best Hotels 2024 and No. 2 in The 50 Best Hotels 2026, Capella Singapore hosted the 2018 Trump–Kim summit, and the newest opening, Capella Kyoto, arrived in March 2026.

For travelers who already know Aman, Capella is the closest spiritual rival in Asia: similar serenity and service depth, and one thing Aman famously lacks, a real loyalty program. It also has the happiest guests of any brand we measure. On our own scoring of recent reviews, Capella averages 9.69 out of 10, first of the thirteen luxury brands in our data, though on a small base of four hotels (the numbers are below).

Capella by Our Numbers

On 3 October 2026 we priced the same stays at every Capella on our booking platform through our own booking engine (the one behind hotels.biirdee.com): 10–13 Nov 2026, 27–30 Dec 2026, 12–15 Mar 2027 and 15–18 Jul 2027, two adults, lowest rate per night, plus a two-night midweek stay (Tuesday to Thursday of the third week) in every month to October 2027. We also scored the 100 most recent verified guest reviews at each hotel ourselves (the mean out of 10, the share scoring 9 or more and the share under 7). Eight Capellas are on our platform; Capella at Galaxy Macau and Capella Kyoto are not. Rates exclude the taxes a hotel collects at checkout, and live rates change daily.

What the Numbers Say

Capella tops the table on every review measure: a 9.69 mean, 93% of guests at 9 or more and 2.8% under 7, ahead of Belmond (9.53) and Maybourne (9.40). Be clear about the base, though. Only four Capellas (Sydney, Hanoi, Singapore and Bangkok) have 50 or more reviews written since June 2024, so the brand score rests on 400 reviews at four hotels, where Four Seasons is scored across 72. A small, young portfolio finds it easier to be uniformly excellent. The long-run record backs the result all the same: all five Capellas with a long-run platform rating over at least 50 reviews average 9.5 or more. One caution on the Forbes count: the five Five-Star hotels include Capella at Galaxy Macau, which is not on our platform.

The reviews also show where Capella is weaker. Pools come up in 11.6% of written reviews, and those average 8.93, against 9.72 for reviews that don't mention a pool; breakfast (23.2% of reviews, 9.48) and price (3.9%, 7.9) also trail. And Capella is not cheap: its median lowest rates ($969 in November, $841 in March) sit above both Four Seasons and Mandarin Oriental, though in July ($684) it was below both. The cheapest rate already included breakfast at 57–86% of the hotels on each stay, which narrows the gap; because Capella sells breakfast and room-only rates as different packages, we don't quote a breakfast premium for it. Two more Capellas have enough reviews to score but fall outside our ranking rule: Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li (9.56, from an older window) and Capella Ubud (9.45 from only 47 reviews, also an older window). Capella Taipei and Capella Tufu Bay, Hainan have too few reviews to score. We go deeper on four of them: Capella Sydney, Capella Singapore, Capella Bangkok and Capella Ubud.

When to Go

Across the brand, May to September is the cheap season: the median midweek rate on our calendar was $799 a night in each of those months, against $1,112 in February and $928 in November. The northern-summer bargains are Hanoi ($524 a night from May to September) and Bangkok ($799 from April). Sydney runs the other way, cheapest in July, June and the third week of December ($625–626) and dearest in February ($1,112). Singapore sat at $986–1,017 most of the year but spiked in the third week of November ($1,788). Ubud was cheapest in January ($1,124) and December ($1,137), and Shanghai sold rooms in only five months, at $1,902–1,950. Taipei ($773–911) and Tufu Bay ($414–594) are in Capella prices, with what suites, refunds and taxes add at each hotel.

The Loyalty Angle: GHA DISCOVERY

Capella has belonged to Global Hotel Alliance's DISCOVERY program since 2019: free to join, no card required. Stays earn DISCOVERY Dollars (D$), redeemable at Capella and 40+ sister brands, plus tier benefits as you climb, and since June 2024 Titanium members get complimentary breakfast at Capella hotels on direct bookings. Among ultra-luxury brands this is genuinely rare: Aman has no program, Rosewood has none, Cheval Blanc has none. Capella effectively pays you back for staying at one of the best hotels in Bangkok.
