Cheval Blanc vs Aman: Which Ultra-Luxury Brand Fits Your Trip?

Two brands that barely sell online, compared on what we can measure and what our desk books.

Cheval Blanc vs Aman: Which Ultra-Luxury Brand Fits Your Trip?

Cheval Blanc and Aman are the two brands in luxury travel that most resist being shopped online. When we priced every hotel of ten luxury brands through our own booking engine (the one behind hotels.biirdee.com) on 1 October 2026, they were the only two with too few rooms on sale to compare: one of the five Cheval Blanc maisons on our engine (Paris; St-Barth is not on it at all) and 4 of the 31 Amans we track (Aman Tokyo, Aman New York, Amanjena and Aman Kyoto). We also set out to score the 100 most recent verified guest reviews at each hotel ourselves, and both brands had too few online reviews to score.

So this comparison leans on what we can measure: rates at the five hotels we could price, on four test stays (10–13 Nov 2026, 27–30 Dec 2026, 12–15 Mar 2027 and 15–18 Jul 2027) and a two-night midweek stay in every month to October 2027; the 2026 Forbes and MICHELIN Keys counts; what breakfast adds; how the seasons work; and what our desk actually books. Rates are the lowest per night the engine charged at booking, with taxes the hotel collects at checkout extra; live rates change daily, so these were the rates on 1 October 2026. The verdicts are ours. For each brand on its own, see the Cheval Blanc guide and the Aman guide.

Cheval Blanc vs Aman in Brief

  • Neither sells much online: only Cheval Blanc Paris and four Amans (Tokyo, New York, Amanjena and Kyoto) had rooms on our booking engine over 12 months.
  • Hotel for hotel, Cheval Blanc is the more decorated: 3 of its 6 maisons are Forbes Five-Star in 2026 against 1 of 19 rated Amans, and 4 of the 6 hold Three MICHELIN Keys. Aman has more Three-Key hotels (seven) from a far larger collection.
  • At the Amans we could price, the cheapest offer was usually a suite or villa: Aman New York ran $4,002–7,643 a night and Amanjena $6,591–10,367, against $2,178–4,065 at Cheval Blanc Paris; Aman Tokyo ($1,863–4,354) overlapped with Paris.
  • What breakfast for two adds on the same room and terms: $76–120 a night at Cheval Blanc Paris, $112–117 at Aman New York.
  • Seasons: Courchevel and St-Tropez open for a single season and St-Barth closes for part of the year; Aman Tokyo sold rooms in every month on our calendar.
  • Our desk books Aman often (Aman Tokyo: 6 bookings, 26 nights) and booked no Cheval Blanc in the same period.
  • Our pick: Cheval Blanc for Paris, Courchevel and the Indian Ocean; Aman for Japan, the US and most of Asia.

Reading the Scorecard

Scale explains most of it. Cheval Blanc is six maisons, every one of them MICHELIN-keyed and half of them Forbes Five-Star, so hotel for hotel it is the more decorated brand. Aman is about five times the size and more varied: seven of its hotels hold Three Keys and Aman Tokyo is No. 11 in The 50 Best Hotels 2026, but only one Aman (Amansara) is Forbes Five-Star. On price, the comparison is suite against room: at Aman Tokyo, Aman New York and Amanjena the cheapest thing our engine offered was a suite or villa, while Cheval Blanc Paris opened with a Deluxe Room.

What the Rates Say

Compare suite with suite and the gap narrows. Cheval Blanc Paris's entry suite, the Seine Junior Suite, cost $3,294 in November, $3,620 in March and $4,002 in July; Aman Tokyo's cheapest suite was $4,177, $3,435 and $2,106 on the same dates, and Aman New York's $4,471, $4,158 and $4,158. So in March and July a suite at Aman Tokyo cost less than a suite at Cheval Blanc Paris, and Aman New York was the dearest of the three on every test stay. Amanjena, where the engine offered only a two-bedroom pool villa, is in a different bracket at $8,350–8,398 a night.

The calendars tell a timing story. Aman Tokyo was cheapest in February ($1,863) and dearest in November ($4,354); Cheval Blanc Paris bottomed out in spring and September and peaked in mid-June. Aman New York held at $4,002 for six months before jumping to $7,643 in September. Aman Kyoto showed rates in only two months of our calendar (December and January), plus our November and December test stays.

Courchevel: The One Place You Have to Choose

Courchevel is the only destination where the two brands meet, and neither makes it easy: Cheval Blanc Courchevel and Aman Le Mélézin both showed no rooms on our booking engine on any date over 12 months, so both are booked on request. On the 2026 awards Cheval Blanc has the edge: Three MICHELIN Keys to Le Mélézin's Two, a Forbes Four-Star rating, and Yannick Alléno's Le 1947, which holds three MICHELIN stars. Cheval Blanc Courchevel has 36 keys, is ski-in and ski-out on Les Trois Vallées and opens for the 2026–27 season on 4 December. Our pick is Cheval Blanc; the Cheval Blanc Courchevel guide has the detail, and how to book Cheval Blanc covers the request.

What Our Desk Books

On our desk the two brands could not look more different. Aman Tokyo is our most-booked Aman and our most-booked Tokyo hotel: 6 bookings and 26 nights, an average stay of 4.3 nights. We also booked Janu Tokyo (5 bookings), Amangiri and Aman Kyoto (3 each), Aman New York (2), and one stay each at Amanemu (five nights) and Amanzoe (four nights in July); most of the Aman nights we booked were in Japan. Clients typically paid about $1,800–5,500 a night at Aman Tokyo (median about $4,700), $3,200–5,700 at Aman Kyoto and $4,800–7,500 at Amangiri, taxes in, with the room category driving the range, and our Aman Tokyo and Kyoto bookings were typically made 10 to 16 days before arrival.

Cheval Blanc produced no bookings with check-ins between November 2024 and April 2027, and our agents priced it only twice. That is not a verdict on the maisons; it reflects how rarely they reach the open market, and why the Cheval Blanc side of this page rests on our rate checks rather than booking history.

Our Verdict

Our verdict, and it is an opinion: choose by destination first and brand second, because the two barely overlap. In Paris, the Alps and the Indian Ocean, Cheval Blanc is the call; in Japan, the US and most of Asia, Aman is. Where you have a real choice, Courchevel, we would take Cheval Blanc for the Three Keys and Le 1947.

If you need a room at short notice, Aman's big-city hotels are the easier booking: Aman Tokyo and Aman New York sold rooms in most months on our engine, and our clients book Aman Tokyo about two weeks out. If you want the more decorated collection, hotel for hotel, it is Cheval Blanc: half its maisons are Forbes Five-Star and two thirds hold Three Keys. For what Cheval Blanc costs across all six maisons, see Cheval Blanc prices.

Cheval Blanc vs Aman FAQs

Is Cheval Blanc more expensive than Aman?

Not at the hotels we could price. Cheval Blanc Paris cost $2,178–4,065 a night over 12 months; Aman New York $4,002–7,643 and Amanjena $6,591–10,367, while Aman Tokyo ($1,863–4,354) overlapped with Paris. Aman's cheapest offers were suites or villas, so compare suite with suite: the entry suite at Cheval Blanc Paris was $3,294–4,038 a night on our test stays, at Aman Tokyo $2,106–4,572 and at Aman New York $4,158–4,882.

Which has more MICHELIN Keys, Cheval Blanc or Aman?

Aman has more Three-Key hotels in 2026, seven against Cheval Blanc's four, from a collection about five times the size. Every Cheval Blanc maison is keyed: Three Keys for Courchevel, Paris, Randheli and St-Barth, Two for St-Tropez and Seychelles.

Cheval Blanc Courchevel or Aman Le Mélézin?

On the 2026 awards, Cheval Blanc Courchevel: Three MICHELIN Keys to Le Mélézin's Two, plus Le 1947 and its three MICHELIN stars. Neither showed rooms on our engine on any date, so both are booked on request; Cheval Blanc Courchevel opens for 2026–27 on 4 December 2026.

Can you book Cheval Blanc or Aman online?

Barely. On our engine only Cheval Blanc Paris and 4 of 31 Amans (Tokyo, New York, Amanjena and Kyoto) had rooms over 12 months. Both brands sell mainly through their own reservations teams and partners, so a dated request through an advisor is the practical route.

Does Cheval Blanc or Aman include breakfast?

At Cheval Blanc Paris the cheapest rate included breakfast for two on all four test stays; where the same room was sold without it, breakfast was worth $76–120 a night. At Aman, 50–100% of the hotels we priced included it in the cheapest rate, and at Aman New York breakfast for two added $112–117 a night.

Which brand is better for a beach trip?

Our view: for the Maldives or the Seychelles, Cheval Blanc, with Randheli (Forbes Five-Star, Three Keys) and Seychelles (Two Keys), and no Aman in either among the 31 we track. For Asian beaches, Aman: Amanpuri in Phuket holds Three Keys.

What Biirdee Does

A concierge travel agency: paid by the hotel, never by you

Biirdee Travel books luxury hotels through preferred-partner programs: you pay the same rate as booking direct, the partner benefits attach to your reservation, and a human concierge handles the details end to end.

  1. Tell us the trip

Destination or property, rough dates, who’s traveling. The form takes two minutes and commits you to nothing.

  2. A concierge replies within hours

A real person checks availability, compares properties honestly, and confirms the perks your stay qualifies for: upgrades, breakfast, and credits where available.

  3. Book at the same rate as direct

The hotel pays our commission out of the rate you’d pay anyway, so the perks cost you nothing. Before and during the trip, one concierge on WhatsApp handles requests and changes.
