The Maybourne Riviera: Rooms, Rates and Our Honest Review

The Maybourne Riviera opened in 2021 as Maybourne's fifth hotel, on a rocky peninsula above Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, looking down on Monaco. The old Vista Palace became Jean-Michel Wilmotte's white prow 300 metres over the sea, with 65 suites and studios by Maybourne's count (the MICHELIN Guide lists 69 rooms). It is the group's one coastal hotel, the sibling of Claridge's and the Connaught in London and the Maybourne Beverly Hills, and 2026 has been its year: Forbes Travel Guide made it Five-Star (France's only new Five-Star hotel in the 2026 Star Awards), it holds Two MICHELIN Keys, and The 50 Best Hotels put it back on its list at No. 93.

We measured it the way we measure every hotel. The short version: the guests who review it love it, but there are few of them online, and our engine had rooms only in November. Rooms, Restaurants and Surrenne

The building is the reason to come: Wilmotte's architecture, Bryan O'Sullivan and Rigby & Rigby as designers, Michelle Wu on art direction, and room categories named for the view. On our November check the ladder ran from the Sea View Studio through the Seaview Junior Suite to the Infinity Pool Duplex Suite, eight room types in all.

The dining is what has changed. Mauro Colagreco's Ceto was among the new starred tables in the 2022 MICHELIN France guide, but the hotel no longer lists it and it is no longer in the MICHELIN Guide, so there is no starred restaurant here in 2026. The top floor (the 14th, by Forbes' count) now belongs to abc kitchens riviera by Jean-Georges, which opened in summer 2025, alongside the Riviera Restaurant, La Môme Riviera's beach club and restaurant, and the Le 300 bar.

Surrenne, Maybourne's wellness and longevity club, opened its Riviera outpost on three floors in June 2025, after the first one at The Emory in London. Access is included with every stay, as are breakfast, an arrival transfer from the Nice area and the shuttle into Monaco.

The Maybourne Riviera by Our Numbers

On 1 October 2026 we priced the same stays at every hotel through our own booking engine (the one behind hotels.biirdee.com) and scored the most recent verified guest reviews at each hotel ourselves: the mean out of 10, the share scoring 9 or more and the share under 7. Rates are the lowest per night the engine charged that day; taxes the hotel collects at checkout would be extra. Our four test stays were 10–13 Nov 2026, 27–30 Dec 2026, 12–15 Mar 2027 and 15–18 Jul 2027, and we also priced two midweek nights in the third week of every month for a year.

What the Numbers Say

Read the score first. 9.66 out of 10 is exceptional at this level, and only 3.4% of guests scored it under 7. But 29 reviews over three years is a small sample, and the newest dates from September 2025, a few months after abc kitchens riviera and Surrenne opened. What the reviews do say clearly is what the hotel is built on: service came up in 45% of the written reviews, and those averaged a perfect 10.0; the view came up in 31%.

Then the availability. Only one of our four test stays had anything to sell, and across a full year of midweek checks November was the only month with rooms. We could not confirm the hotel's season dates, and Maybourne does not publish them on its site, so read "No rooms" as what it is: nothing bookable through our engine on 1 October 2026, whether closed, sold out or not released to us. Summer dates go through our desk.

What November buys: $797 a night for a Sea View Studio with breakfast, non-refundable, or $935 for the cheapest refundable rate; the cheapest suite, a Seaview Junior Suite, at $1,289; and the Infinity Pool Duplex Suite at $2,568. Because breakfast is part of every stay, there is no breakfast surcharge to add, unlike at the London hotels.

How It Compares With Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat

Its closest rival on our books is Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel, which our desk also booked for August. Both are Forbes Five-Star, and both were hard to price on our calendar: each had rooms in a single month.

On the one test stay where both hotels had rooms, the Maybourne cost $797 a night with breakfast against $1,274 room only at the Grand-Hôtel, and its guests score it higher. Both review windows start before mid-2024 and the Maybourne's sample is far smaller, so we call the scores a draw that leans Maybourne. The two sets of reviews also describe different holidays: the Riviera's guests write about service and the view, Cap-Ferrat's about service, the pool (39% of written reviews) and the food (39%).

Summer is where both get hard to buy. For 15–18 July the Grand-Hôtel had only suites left, at $8,897 a night, and the Maybourne had nothing on sale at all; on our twelve-month calendar each priced in a single month. For July or August at either, book early and book through a desk. Our take, and it is only ours: choose the Maybourne for the view, the design and a week of doing very little well; choose the Grand-Hôtel if the pool and the dining are the point of the trip. What Our Desk Books
