Japan's beach-luxury coast, reached lie-flat via Tokyo or a short regional hop.
Okinawa is Japan's answer to the beach-resort long weekend, and the luxury tier has arrived in force — Halekulani Okinawa on the Onna coast, The Ritz-Carlton above Nago Bay, and a steady pipeline of five-star openings along the East China Sea. Naha (OKA) is the gateway, forty-five minutes to an hour from the main resort strips.
There are no U.S. or Europe nonstops as of August 2026, so premium routings take one of two shapes. The classic is lie-flat trans-Pacific into Tokyo — Haneda or Narita — then the two-and-a-half-hour domestic leg on JAL or ANA, ticketed through on one itinerary. The alternative comes in from the region: China Airlines and EVA Air from Taipei, Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, and Seoul and Shanghai links besides. Note that those short regional sectors use recliner-style business seats, not flat beds.
Timing matters more here than almost anywhere in Japan: summer and Golden Week are the peaks, and the August–September typhoon season is a genuine planning consideration, not a footnote.

Peak Okinawa is Golden Week in early May and the school-holiday summer of July and August, when beach resorts and Haneda–Naha premium cabins sell down months out — book those windows four to six months ahead. August and September are also typhoon season: storms can and do reshuffle flights, so favor flexible tickets and a buffer day.
The quiet-luxury play is the shoulder: April before Golden Week, and October–November, with warm water, thinner crowds and softer fares. Winter is mild and cheap, with humpback whale season running roughly January to March off the Kerama Islands.

Roughly August through September, with occasional storms either side. Flights get reshuffled most years, so favor flexible fares and avoid tight onward connections in that window.
April before Golden Week and October–November offer warm beach weather without peak crowds or typhoon risk; July–August is peak season and prices accordingly.
