Phoenix runs on an inverted calendar: the best weather is the high season. From January to April the valley climbs from high-sixties afternoons to the mid-eighties, the snowbirds are in residence, the Cactus League brings fifteen major-league clubs to spring training through late February and March, the WM Phoenix Open fills Scottsdale in early February and the Barrett-Jackson auction runs in late January. Hotels and premium cabins both price to match.
Summer is the opposite trade. June through August runs average highs above 100°F with stretches over 110°F, the resorts discount hard, and business class from every US gateway falls to the bottom of the ranges above — the catch being the heat itself and the monsoon storms that run from mid-June into September and can hold departures on the ground. September and October are the compromise: still warm, no crowds, fares that have not yet turned.
Book two to four months out for anything between mid-January and mid-April, and three to five months for the transatlantic nonstops: the European services into Phoenix are thin, a handful of departures a week rather than a bank of them.
