Business Class Flights to Zanzibar

Zanzibar has two rainy seasons and they behave very differently. The long rains run from roughly mid-March to the end of May, heavy enough that some beach hotels close outright; it is the cheapest time to fly and the biggest gamble on weather. The short rains arrive in November as afternoon downpours that rarely wreck a week. Between them sit the two high seasons: June to October, dry and cool, when the island fills with travellers coming off the northern safari circuit, and mid-December to February, hotter and more humid, when the beaches are at their busiest.

Demand spikes are sharper than the weather alone would suggest. Christmas and New Year is the most expensive fortnight of the year on nearly every routing into ZNZ, and business inventory goes first. July and August stack European school holidays on top of the Serengeti river-crossing months, so the safari-plus-beach itineraries compete for the same seats. Stone Town adds its own calendar (the Sauti za Busara music festival in February and the Zanzibar International Film Festival at midyear both fill the old-town hotels), and Ramadan, which falls early in the calendar year for the next several years, shortens daytime restaurant hours in town while the beach resorts carry on as normal.

Book four to six months ahead for Christmas, New Year and the European summer, and two to three months for everything else; April, May and early November are the soft months in both directions. Two Zanzibar-specific cautions: the Paris, Frankfurt and Zurich nonstops are seasonal, so verify the service is flying on your dates before you build an itinerary around it, and the business cabins on the five-hour Gulf legs are small in absolute terms, which means discounted inventory disappears long before the fare itself moves.
