Sixteen and a half hours from Los Angeles, half an hour from District 1 — Saigon is closer than it reads.
Business class flights to Ho Chi Minh City land at Tan Son Nhat (SGN), the city’s international airport for now, a few kilometres north-west of District 1 and twenty to thirty minutes from the Opera House outside rush hour. From North America the nonstop map is short: United from Los Angeles in about 16h30m and Vietnam Airlines from San Francisco in about 15h50m. From other US cities the trip is a one-stop, and the good news is that the connecting options are unusually deep.
Europe is the surprise. Vietnam Airlines flies its own widebodies nonstop from London Heathrow in about 13h, Paris in about 12h50m, Frankfurt in about 12h15m, Munich in about 12h and Copenhagen in about 11h50m; Air France matches the Paris run at about 12h50m. Against those nonstops sit the classic one-stop alternatives that usually set the price — Emirates from Dubai in about 7h20m, Qatar Airways from Doha in about 7h50m, and Turkish Airlines from Istanbul in about 10h30m.
From Asia the flying is short and business class is cheap, though the seat on the last hop is as often a recliner as a bed: Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines from Bangkok in about 1h20m, Singapore Airlines and Vietnam Airlines from Changi in about 1h50m, Cathay Pacific, United and Vietnam Airlines from Hong Kong in about 2h20m, Vietnam Airlines from Jakarta in about 2h50m, China Eastern, China Southern, Juneyao and Vietnam Airlines from Shanghai in about 3h50m, Vietnam Airlines from Beijing in about 4h35m, Korean Air, Asiana and Vietnam Airlines from Seoul in about 4h50m, and Japan Airlines, All Nippon and Vietnam Airlines from Tokyo Narita in about 5h50m. Vietnam Airlines also runs Sydney in about 8h50m and Melbourne in about 8h40m. Low-cost carriers including VietJet Air, Scoot and Thai VietJet serve many of the same pairs, but in economy only. We quote the published fares honestly on this page and then source below them.

The home carrier and the only airline with a nonstop map this wide: London (about 13h), Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Copenhagen, San Francisco (about 15h50m), Sydney, Melbourne, and the whole North and Southeast Asian grid. The 787s and A350s carry a lie-flat 1-2-1 cabin; the A321s used on short regional legs are recliners, so check the aircraft before you assume a bed.
The US carrier on the route, from Los Angeles in about 16h30m, with Polaris lie-flat seats and direct aisle access. United also operates Hong Kong to Ho Chi Minh City in about 2h20m, which makes a same-airline connection possible from several other US gateways.
Paris Charles de Gaulle to SGN in about 12h50m, competing head to head with Vietnam Airlines on the same city pair. The newer business suite with a closing door is on part of the long-haul fleet and is not guaranteed on this route — check the aircraft type and seat map before you book.
Dubai to Ho Chi Minh City in about 7h20m, and the workhorse one-stop from the UK, continental Europe, Africa and the US East Coast. Much of the 777 fleet still carries the older 2-3-2 business cabin without direct aisle access, though retrofitted aircraft with a 1-2-1 seat now turn up too — check the seat map, and on a 2-3-2 ask for a window pair rather than a middle.
Doha to SGN in about 7h50m, frequently the price leader on one-stop itineraries from London and the East Coast. Qsuite appears on many rotations but not every one, and Doha connections can be tight enough to be worth an extra hour of buffer.
Changi to SGN in about 1h50m — one of the shortest final legs of any long-haul routing into Vietnam, and the reason a Singapore connection often feels easier than a nonstop. The hop is usually a narrowbody or regional widebody with a 2-2 business cabin rather than Singapore’s long-haul seat.
Hong Kong to Ho Chi Minh City in about 2h20m, with strong same-day connections off the London, New York and Los Angeles longhauls. Usually a widebody, though the regional A321neo with a recliner-style business seat also works the route — a short enough hop that it rarely matters.
Seoul Incheon to SGN in about 4h50m, with Asiana — now part of the same group — on the pair as well. For travellers from the US West Coast it is often one of the cheaper one-stop routings into Vietnam, and Incheon is a genuinely pleasant place to lose three hours.

Ho Chi Minh City has two seasons rather than four. The dry season, roughly December to April, is the one visitors want: warm, bright and largely rainless, with February and March the most comfortable and April the hottest month of the year. The wet season, May through November, is not the washout it sounds like — the rain usually arrives as a heavy late-afternoon hour and then clears, and hotel and airfare pricing softens accordingly.
The calendar that actually moves business class fares here is Tet. Lunar New Year falls in early February in 2027, and the Vietnamese diaspora in the United States, Australia and Europe books the three weeks before it out solid — Vietnam Airlines’ own nonstops from London, Paris, San Francisco and Sydney are the first cabins to disappear. The mid-December to early January window is the second peak, stacked with Western school holidays and year-end corporate travel, and European summer holidays lift the Paris, Frankfurt and Munich flights through July and August.
Book four to six months ahead for Tet and the Christmas fortnight, and two to three months for everything else. May, June, September and October are the soft months in both directions and where the discount inventory actually sits. Because the US and European nonstops are thin — at most a departure a day, with small cabins — cheap business seats vanish on those flights long before the headline fare moves; if your dates are fixed, send them over and we will come back with what we can source, usually within the hour.

As of September 2026, published round trips run roughly $5,000–$10,000 from the U.S. West Coast, $5,000–$10,500 from the East Coast, £3,000–£6,000 from London, €2,800–€5,500 from continental Europe and $900–$3,000 from Asian hubs such as Bangkok, Singapore or Hong Kong. Biirdee’s negotiated and unpublished fares typically price below those ranges.
Vietnam Airlines has the widest map — London, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Copenhagen, San Francisco, Sydney, Melbourne, Seoul, Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai, Beijing and Jakarta. Add United from Los Angeles and Hong Kong, Air France from Paris, Emirates from Dubai, Qatar Airways from Doha, Turkish Airlines from Istanbul, Singapore Airlines from Changi, Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, Thai Airways from Bangkok, Korean Air and Asiana from Seoul, Japan Airlines and All Nippon from Tokyo Narita, and China Eastern, China Southern and Juneyao from Shanghai. VietJet Air, Scoot and Thai VietJet fly several of the same routes in economy only.
Yes. Vietnam Airlines flies Heathrow to SGN nonstop in about 13h, with a lie-flat 1-2-1 business cabin on its 787s and A350s. It is a thin schedule with a small cabin, so premium seats go early; Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha and Turkish Airlines via Istanbul are the one-stop alternatives and are often cheaper.
From Los Angeles and San Francisco. United flies Los Angeles to SGN in about 16h30m and Vietnam Airlines flies San Francisco in about 15h50m. From New York and other US gateways the trip is one-stop — the strongest connections are Doha on Qatar Airways, Dubai on Emirates, Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific or United, Seoul on Korean Air or its Asiana subsidiary, and Tokyo Narita on Japan Airlines or All Nippon.
Nonstop it is about 16h30m from Los Angeles, 15h50m from San Francisco, 13h from London, 12h50m from Paris, 12h15m from Frankfurt and 8h50m from Sydney. From Asia it is far shorter: about 1h20m from Bangkok, 1h50m from Singapore, 2h20m from Hong Kong, 4h50m from Seoul and 5h50m from Tokyo. One-stop itineraries from the U.S. East Coast typically total well over twenty hours gate to gate, depending on the hub and the connection.
Avoid the three weeks before Tet and the Christmas fortnight, travel in the May-to-October wet season, and consider a one-stop through an Asian hub where the final leg into SGN is priced as regional flying — a Seoul, Hong Kong, Bangkok or Singapore connection frequently costs less than the nonstop, though the final hop is often a narrowbody with a recliner rather than a bed, so we check the aircraft before we quote. Beyond routing, the real saving is the fare type: we book negotiated and unpublished business class fares that are not on the public sites, up to 70% below retail.
For the seat, a Qatar Airways rotation carrying Qsuite via Doha, then Vietnam Airlines’ own 1-2-1 cabin on the 787 and A350 nonstops from Europe and San Francisco. For time saved, Vietnam Airlines from San Francisco at about 15h50m is the quickest nonstop from North America, with United from Los Angeles at about 16h30m just behind it. For value, a Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific connection, where a final leg of under two and a half hours makes the whole journey feel shorter than the clock says.
