December is Accra’s peak by a distance. The late-December stretch the city calls Detty December — homecoming parties, concerts and festivals through December and into the new year — fills the lie-flat cabins out of London, New York, Washington and Amsterdam, and both price and availability deteriorate sharply after October. Book that window four to six months ahead, and treat the days either side of 31 December as the hardest seats of the year to source in either direction.
The rest of the calendar is far kinder. Harmattan season, roughly December through February, brings dry, hazy days and the most reliable weather; the main rains fall from April into June or July, with a lighter second spell in September and October. Those wet months are the soft season, with the July–August school holidays the one exception; outside that window four to eight weeks’ notice is usually enough, and early March firms up only briefly around Independence Day on the sixth.
Two structural things shape what you pay. These routes are thinly served and the business cabins are small in absolute terms — a few dozen seats on a typical widebody — so discounted inventory goes early even when the headline fare has not moved.
